uncle potts Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I just finished remodeling my bathroom last year. The decor was based around a Texaco Fire Chief sign I've had for the last 40 years. As the last part of the decor I wanted a diorama of a Texaco Gas Station. Here is the concept.
uncle potts Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 Siding done on part of the building.
uncle potts Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 Next step starting on the door and windows.
Tom Geiger Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Texaco theme bathroom? I have a tiny little bathroom on the main floor of my house, about the size of a gas station bathroom. So I bought this reproduction sign. It's on the wall over the toilet.
RichCostello Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Hey Paul, where did you get the pumps? Did you make them or buy them somewhere(if so, where)? P.S. I grew up in Sioux City, haven't been there in years.
Eshaver Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Rich, the pumps are models of Tokiem 39-L's . They're made by Gearbox collectables . I found them to be a bit small for 1-25th scale . I continue to make my own
uncle potts Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 Rich, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Eshaver is correct they are gearbox collectables. My wife bought them for me several years ago. I do not know where, and she can't remember. I have seen them on EBay. As far as accuracy in scale i don't know, but they work for me for what i want to do. Hope that helps.

The main body of the Gearbox is about 3 MM too narrow . I know that won't amount to a heck of a lot to most here , cause they don't know squat about gasoline pumps . I've spent nearly 50 + years dealing with service stations , pumps , their history and scouring the US for parts to rebuild them
Belugawrx Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 ...you're a dealer E...? lol you should cast those ones Ellen
uncle potts Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 Update: Windows and door done. Getting ready to install , hope to have an update within the next few days. Can't upload pics right now. Will try again tomorrow.
uncle potts Posted December 24, 2018 Author Posted December 24, 2018 Latest update. Windows and door installed. Will be starting on the garage portion of the building next.
uncle potts Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 Time for an update. My time at the bench has been spuratic lately. This is where I'm at. The siding is done. The garage doors and entry doors are installed. The roof and the island are my next projects. Comments are welcome. It helps me see where I can improve or what just looks wonky to the average eye. Thanks for looking.
Anglia105E Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Very nicely built so far Paul.... can't fault it. David
uncle potts Posted February 28, 2019 Author Posted February 28, 2019 Started on the interior of the gas station. I hadn't intended to get this involved, but it seems to have developed a life of its own. Your thoughts....
Anglia105E Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Your interior work is shaping up nicely Paul, and this is what happens..... you get pulled in as the building evolves, and the diorama takes on a life of it's own. Before you know it, the building itself becomes a living thing almost. This is what I like most about constructing a diorama building, along with the photographic results of course. David

Thanks for the kind comments. It's amazing to me that dioramas never seem to be done. There's always one more thing to add.

GaryR Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Cool stuff and nice work. Dioramas are a lot of fun!
Anglia105E Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I don't see my diorama ever being completed, or finished..... instead I prefer to think of the project as something I can keep adding to or modifying as time goes on. Sometimes I sit and look at the diorama ' site ' while I am having a coffee, and some small detail comes to mind..... yet another idea that leads to further creativity. Also, there are some contacts I have who will occasionally send me information about an element of the scenario that might be worth considering.... maybe a new found photograph from the distant past..... uncle potts Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 I wanted to replicate security glass in the shop door. So I went to Hobby Lobby and got some lace type material and and applied it with Microscale clear gloss.
uncle potts Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 My wife tells me that the materiale i user is called Tulle. The smallest amount i could get was 1/8 of a yard, it will last forever.
