40 Ford "Starlet"

I have determined that 2019 will be my year to finish a few stalled projects (that's not to say that I won't start just as many) that have been needing to get finished. My goal is, at least, three. I am not counting the Tweedy Pie build that I almost finished by December 31. That one should be finished by the end of this weekend.

With that said, I am bringing this one back to the bench. I chopped the top and converted it to a hardtop a couple.of years ago and sprayed a coat of Copper on it. Afterwards I realized that I forgot to shave the hinges from the doors. I shaved them and then my Modeler's ADD kicked in. Here is where it sits today.

My plans are to spray a coat of Testors Red Metallic over the Copper for a nice, deep red. I have some pinstripe decals for the hood and trunk that I want to put under the red for a ghost effect (hopefully) I have a spoon painted in the Copper that I have applied a decal to. Tomorrow morning I will hit it with some of the red to see the effect. If it doesn't work than I will just apply the pinstripes over the red.

I have a Caddy dual snorkle air cleaner that I will possibly use for the carb.

We will see where this goes. I hope to have this one done by the end of January, at the latest.

I have tried to edit this three times and got an error each time, so I will just reply to my post. Some of the mods are a 48 Ford dash, Plastruct piping for the seats, lowered suspension, 36 Ford fender skirts and the engine from  the Revell 32 Ford 3 window, to name a few.

Got the red sprayed on the body and underside of the hood. Still have the top of the hood to cover. I'm liking the color but I don't think that the pinstripes will be able to be seen to well.

First coats:

Time to work on the engine and exhaust while this dries.

VERY nice roofline on this.  B)

I thought that too, and a great colour though I would imagine it is a little darker in real light.

I had planned something on the style of Matranga'a Mercury but with a fadaway and the Ford is a little easier to obtain than a model Mercury :)

Thanks guys. This is the first 40 For that I have chopped. I like the looks of it too.

John, have you looked at the Jimmy Flintstone Matranga Merc?

Real nice, I had heard of the JF but never seen a built up ?. His Hirohata Mercury looks to be chopped just a little too much.

Sorry no progress photos lately. Nothing really exciting as far as progress. I got the body wet sanded this week and will be putting on another coat of clear tomorrow morning. I changed the dash and steering column from Fiery Orange to the red body color. I modified the headers and steering linkage due to the fact that the linkage was hitting the oil pan and headers. I also had to narrow the front finned brake drums to give the wheels enough clearance within the fenders. That's always the thing with parts swapping. Sometimes they have to be modified.

Got the final clear coat on this morning. Now to let it dry a couple of days and wetsand with the 8000 and 1200, then polish it up. I touched up the nicks and dings on the chassis and engine.

Now to work on the 58 Corvette for a couple of days.
