Yes indeed it is that time of the year again.  Preorders are flying for the products being announced and displayed at this year's Shizouka Hobby Show - which is officially May 9th - 12th.  Jonathan has already teased the new tool kit from Aoshima in another thread, but we're going to take a comprehensive look at upcoming items here.

Aoshima -

So yes the new tool from Aoshima for the Summer is the 2017 Toyota NTP10 Japanese Taxi.  This kit will be offered in two versions one molded in white, one in black.  There is a subtle difference in wheels between the two.

Also coming from Aoshima -

Wataru Akiyama's Toyota AE86 Levin - Modified Reissue - Initial D Series - This is one of a half dozen existing Aoshima kits that have/are getting new parts to fold them into various parts of the Initial D Series

2016 Toyota Crown Police Car - Modified Reissue - Getting a new grill, and requisite police parts (several of which are also newly molded) to make a Tokyo Metropolitan Police Traffic unit

LB Works "Charaska" Nissan Skyline - Modified Reissue - New overfenders, new rear end pieces and exhaust.  Going back to the retro kits after beating us over the head with FIVE R35 variants.

1990 Toyota Estima  - Modified Reissue - This is the minivan we got as the Previa here, but it's a JDM only kit.  This is getting a substantial rework of from the original with new bumpers, new wheels, and other bits to make a legitimately factory stock version of this vehicle.

One last thing from Aoshima, that isn't really part of Shizouka but is another Modified Reissue, in June they're releasing a 1998 version of their new tool Nissan Skyline ER34 25GT kit.  This is the earlier "pre-facelift" car which has a different front fascia most noticeably, but also has different wheels, rear end treatment, spoiler and other bits.  This is why this kit was molded with the separate front clip pieces to make this conversion not require an entirely new pieces of body tooling.

Beemax -

For the purposes here I am also putting NuNu Hobby/Platz in here, because they're also the same company just different operating names depending on who's distributing their kits.

Mitsubishi Starion Gr. A - Looks like the initial release of this new tool will be liveried for the 1987 Japanese Touring Car Championship STP cars.  They won a pair of races during that season.  There will also be a P/E detail up set.

Audi R8 LMS GT3 - Over at NuNu we're getting this one in the Audi Team WRT liveries for the 2015 24hrs of Spa.  The #1 car started 6th and finished 21st.  The #2 started on the Pole and finished 2nd.  There will be a P/E Detail Up set as well.

Hasegawa -

So Hasegawa's brand new tool kit isn't a surprise specifically.  They had teased this back at the end of 2018, and was originally supposed to be released back in March (per the tease).

1986 Toyota Starlet EP71 Turbo S

10605512b.jpg.9f6a3a53a6e930e217f231caa0bc639f.jpg

Next installment of reissuing all the 1966 American Cars? Check.  Resin "sexy blonde"? Also Check.  If you missed it the "1966" (looks like a '65 to me) Impala was reissued this year already between hobby shows.

10605524b4.jpg.dbe5686a834ec05bbcbba9a0f94b6227.jpg

Modified in the sense of a new set of decals, the next JTCC R31 Skyline is here.  This time with the Diesel Kiki Team from the 1988 season.

10605532p.jpg.e0cfa840c84b71ddce546953e3c54afa.jpg

Their new tool R92CP kit gets it's version modified reissue this time as the YHP Hewlett Packard livery from the 1992 JSCP Series, specifically the 1000km of Fuji.  New rear cowling pieces and new wheels.

Lastly of interest to anyone who likes Japanese cars, but has always lamented the lack of LHD.  Finally there is a solution.  With the tooling of the LHD parts needed to make the Monte Carlo version of the 240Z Rally kit, they've decided to tool up the correct grill, bumpers, left hand mirror and side marker lights to make a legit U.S. Spec Datsun 240Z HLS30

Tamiya

Reissue of the Mazda 787B in what I suspect will be the Charge Livery from their Le Mans win.  This is a much in demand kit with crazy resales prices which Tamiya will Hulk SMASH with a Japanese sale price under $28.

Also they are reissuing their AMG GT3 kit, this time with the Leon Cvstos livery from the 2018 Super GT GT300 Championship team.

To further gin up speculation for a Tamiya Fall Release announcement for the Tokyo Model & Hobby show in October the AMG GT3 is kit 24350, and the reissue of the 787B is 24352.  So what will be the "missing" kit #24351.  The last time there was a missing kit number it begat a Ford GT...

Well, so far, my wallet is safe.  None of these bear any interest to me.  Good for others, perhaps.  Glad I have a large unbuilt stash and Alpha Models is doing some interesting modern Ferraris.  Was hoping Aoshima would consider expanding out their Lambo "line" with an Urus (would be interesting)

Yeah now that they're finally doing the promised 488 GTB (along with the 812 Superfast), I feel my wallet lightening.  I don't mind the Spyder, but I really wanted one with a roof on it.  My interest is piqued with the Huracan Evo they have cooking, and how easily it will be to wedge an Aoshima Performante chassis into that resin body rather than using the slab that will come with it.

Precisely what I was thinking.  I wanted roofed versions more than Spyders. I am also thinking if I could use the Fujimi F12 with some work under the 812.  The big thing there is how difficult to open the hood and the changes in the engine bay to reflect the differences.  I did get some detail 812 engine bay photos at a recent Ferrari Expo

I’d be shocked if the new release from Tamiya is anything but the new Supra

I would be too, and they are the clear front runners at this point to do it,   and with Gazoo racing using the Supra as well, and with them doing the Gazoo Racing Toyota Hybrid , it make some sense.   Tamiya did the Gazoo Racing Toyota 86 Rally Version some years back, although that was simply tooling up some new race bits, doing the race version of the Supra would require a lot of new parts , probably on the same lines as their stock Supra and Super GT Supra kit they did .

There is a lot of good information here, James!  Thanks for gathering it all up and posting it here!  Most of the race cars will find there way to my stash.

That's not a 1966 or a 1965 Impala.  It's a 1966 Buick Wildcat.
1966-Buick-Wildcat-Outside-2-940x627.jpg Looks like Hasegawa over staggered the headlights.  I don't own the kit, but I've heard there are quite a few inaccuracies.

I didn't say it was an Impala. I said the Impala had already been reissued earlier this year. The T-Bird & Caddy has been announced at the Tokyo Hobby Show, but the Impala was just released between the shows. I was pretty sure in this crowd people knew the kit announced for this show was a Buick.

Yes the BUICK has a number of issues (too many for me)....the other 3 are much better but none are completely accurate.

Awwwwlll ova the Starion, R8, Starlet and LHD Z.  Maybe the next-version R92 as well. Don't know if I can justify the livery variation on the AMG GT but I'll have another look when it's released.

Went looking at the Hase "'66" Impala to see if it had any medicine for what ails the Revell -

hsgsp402_6.jpg.895f727ff432e131e6e912002ea98dff.jpg

ummm, yeah... not sure about that greenhouse - although reshaping the drip moldings might help (and THIS kit is what James was talking about, btw).  Certainly looks better at rocker panel level.  Anybody remember if this is true 1/24, or might the scale be fudged a bit?

As for the Buick, Alexis, it appears that for some reason - too sharp a "W" contour to the front grille in overhead plan view perhaps? - the outer headlights are way too proud relative to the inboard ones.  Although the model gives the impression that if you could cut the outer headlights out and re-seat them a bit deeper, it might go a long way to improving the accuracy in that area.

Wus Rong Wif Da Hasegawa Buick kit?

I want one to fill a gap in my Buick collection, and it looks okay to me, so far.

Well, the AMT annual has been reissued countless times, so I don't see any point of getting the Hasegawa one since I have more than one of the AMT kit.  Now when they reissue the Hasegawa '66 Pontiac Bonneville I might get one, though I do have an MPC '66.

The American series started out as cloned bodies of period Johan and AMT kits for slot cars in the 60's and 70's, then got a generic chassis and interior in the 80's, so my guess is that they are closer to 1/25.

You can see the content of the original Impala kit here (site is in Japanese).  Note that the original package states that the kit is 1/25.

Excellent.  Thanks, Sylvester!

Wow - I thought I saw something similar with asymmetric drip moldings on the AMT annuals, a little too curvy on one side particularly.

hmm. So I may like one of these after all 'cause even so, it gives a more accurate impression overall than the R/M '65.  Just stuff some Monogram guts up in the Hase shell and call Uncle Bobs.

Diggin' how there's an actual '66 on the original boxcover, too - and a Caprice instead of an Impala no less. :D

It's pretty much the same shape as the misshapen one on the "65 Bonneville kit.

Fortunately for me, there's only one kit that is getting my attention (the Datsun 240Z). I'll consider the Tamiya Mercedes if they ever do the purple and white Wynn's livery from this year's IMSA races...

You might as well go buy an AMG kit then, because that livery is being worked on by an aftermarket decal supplier as we speak.

I wish the Japanese would do a few kits of their classic cars sold over here in U.S. spec form. The Datsun 240 is a good start. But, I'd really like to see a '71-'72 U.S. spec Toyota Celica. A left-hard drive Toyota 2000GT would be cool too. Two others I'd like to see. A '70-'72 Toyota Hi-lux pickup truck (my dad had one). And a stock, non racing, Datsun 510.

Ohh man, a newly tooled Starion is always welcome in my books, especially if its from Beemax/Aoshima. If it had a engine and a potential stock '87 ESI-R cousin at some point or another I'd be the happiest camper, but a man can dream eh.
