Hotrod 97 Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 This is my new(ish) entry for the 50 Years of Mach 1 community build. It was part of a learning experience, but I don’t think any of the parts have been modified. Anyways, I’m going to build this one like my 1:1 scale dream car. It’ll be Acapulco Blue with Gold and White decals. I found some rims in the parts bin from a ‘68 Shelby that I think will look good on it.
69NovaYenko Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 A 1969 428 CJ sounds like an interesting and intriguing project! I`ll be following this one. BTW is that the AMT `69 Mustang kit you are build from?
Monty Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 The '69 Mach 1 is one of my favorite muscle cars, so I look forward to watching the progress you make on your build. It looks like you're using the Revell kit for this project. If you haven't built it before, you'll find that it's fairly well done with the exception of the front end, which was so "off" it kept quite a few of us from bothering to finish our builds. Fortunately, there is (was?) a resin front end assembly that came out a number of years ago that, while not perfect, is a big improvement. If you're interested, I'm sure these guys could help you find one.
vamach1 Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 You also experiment to see if the 69 Boss 302 front end fits.

That's why I never finished mine. Good luck with your project.
zakdoggi Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Keen to see how this one builds up. I too have the Hot Rod magazine issue of this kit in my stash.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 24, 2019 Author Posted July 24, 2019 Got the engine block halves glued together and sanded. Next step is to finish the block assembly and get it in primer.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 I did some experimenting with paint and primer colors. I discovered something that I'm pretty happy with for the Mach 1 - Testors Arctic Blue Metallic over gray primer.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 (edited) I've been test fitting some parts from a '69 Boss 302 - the corrected front end will fit with little to no modification needed, I’m going to modify the hood from the Boss 302 since the Mach 1 hood didn’t line up right, and I think I'm going to add a little nod to the Boss by using the rear window louvers. Edited July 31, 2019 by Hotrod 97 Corrected spelling and punctuation
Hotrod 97 Posted August 3, 2019 Author Posted August 3, 2019 Got the engine partially assembled and ready for primer. I'm going to attach the oil pan after I paint the transmission. I also got the carburetor assembled. The carb base from the Mach 1 broke, so I used the full carb from the Boss 302.
Hotrod 97 Posted August 6, 2019 Author Posted August 6, 2019 Got the chassis, rear axle assembly, oil pan, and engine in primer. I also assembled the exhaust and sanded the mold lines.
kelson Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Don't forget to sand off the Revell lettering on the chassis. But nice work so far.

Hotrod 97 Posted August 11, 2019 Author Posted August 11, 2019 Got some more parts primed, sanded the Revell lettering off of the chassis, and glued the side scoops into the body.
Snake45 Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 Don't forget to sand off those molding lines right above the scoop.

Hotrod 97 Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Got the chassis, seats, dash, and interior bucket painted flat black. I spray painted the exhaust system with Krylon ColorMaster Brilliant Aluminum. I had the engine painted, but wasn't happy with how it turned out (the humidity was a little too high to paint outside. I found that out after I brought the engine back in...).
vamach1 Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 (edited) I saw this one on Facebook. Lots of detail added. Edited August 29, 2019 by vamach1
Sam I Am Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Just a little inspiration for you. I helped in the restoration of this one, and yes, it's a 428.
