Jim B Posted January 12, 2020 Posted January 12, 2020 I picked this kit up from a fellow modeler back at the IMPS Syracuse Show in October 2019, and I started it in November. My inspiration for this build was Little GTO by Ronny and the Daytonas, and since I've been on a Muscle Car kick, why not build the muscle car that started it all. The build is essentially "box stock", with the California license plates coming from the Revell 1941 Chevrolet Pickup kit (they actually say 1965, so close enough). Thank you to Tbill for providing the blue paint for the engine. Exterior color is Rustolium Colonial Red over Flat Black.
Jim B Posted January 12, 2020 Author Posted January 12, 2020 Oh, I almost forgot. Here is a photo of the interior prior to me buttoning it up.
Jim B Posted January 12, 2020 Author Posted January 12, 2020 Thanks, Peter. It was a pleasurable build as the kit went together quite nicely. It isn't perfect, but I like it.
Belugawrx Posted January 12, 2020 Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) I love a nice '64 ....and that is a nice '64.. well done Jim? You got the nose painted just right ! Edited January 13, 2020 by Belugawrx
Jim B Posted January 12, 2020 Author Posted January 12, 2020 Thanks, guys. Bruce, the nose was a separate piece, so it made it easier to paint correctly.
Shambles Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Nice job! Excellent detail. I built one of these a long time ago. I've still got a photo, but the nose piece is missing. Monogram was my brand of choice for decades of building.
Jim B Posted January 13, 2020 Author Posted January 13, 2020 Thanks, guys. John, that's a nice looking GTO. I see you did the hardtop version. Well done.
Geno Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 (edited) I love this Monogram model kit, I've built 2 and have another in the works. I had a silver one I sold, this one is in with my 1/24 diecast collection. You done it justice James, very nice. Edited January 13, 2020 by Geno
Jim B Posted January 13, 2020 Author Posted January 13, 2020 Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. Gene, that's a nice looking GTO as well. I like the Wide Ovals & the different wheels. Gives it a completely different look. I'd build this kit again if I had the chance.
espo Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Great looking GTO. Nicely done body trim. Like you I built one sometime ago as an OOB build. As luck would have it mine was molded in red, and since I was going for the Car & Driver look from their so called comparison to the Ferrari GTO that worked out just fine. Some careful sanding and polishing of the body was good enough. I also prefer the post body style. Your interior with the optional sport steering wheel looks very realistic also.
Jim B Posted January 13, 2020 Author Posted January 13, 2020 Thanks, David. That's the steering wheel that came with the kit. The only thing that isn't from the kit are the California license plates.
Hmann68 Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Nice GTO! Love the old Monogram 1/24 kits. Built just about all of ‘em as a youngster in the 80’s. Nice work on yours!
