Tommy124 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 I have found the Revell 62 Corvette Roadster to be the best US car (full) kit I have built so far. Absolutely no issues but great details.

It should be available from discounters soon at between $20 and $25. They are now showing up on ebay much cheaper. Enjoy the build. ? Edited March 9, 2020 by Pete J.

The MPC version(s) are the ones I truly desire , as they're a trip down memory lane . I'm just apprehensive about buying one via eBay , et alia , due to the dreaded "tyre burn" issues . I'll keep me eyes open for the Tamiya kit -- it looks nice ! The new reissue is available from Hobby link japan now and should be in other discounters soon. Tamiya USA shows it with an MSRP of $29 now. Tire burn is generally not an issue with Tamiya products because they bag the tires separately. They have has some of the 1:12 scale tires degrade and crumble over time, but that is a different issue.

The first two are $16 + $9 shipping, shipped from outside US, delivery estimated from late March to mid-May. Or maybe never. Third one was Tower Hobbies, $23 plus change, plus of course shipping. If I were ordering a bunch of other stuff from Tower, I'd have them throw one in the box, but don't want/need one bad enough to order it by itself. Still, I'll keep my eye open for a good deal on one of these. Thanks!

Richard Bartrop Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 If you want a Tamiya kit, but Japanese cars aren't your thing, or you like engine and chassis detail, there is their excellent 1/24 Lotus 7 kit. Their 1/12 Lotus 72 John Player Special is hard to beat when it comes to detail, but for all its apparent complexity, it goes together surprisingly easily. Even the finish of the body is nice enough that you can skip the paint if you want.

I built one! Been almost 30 years ago and I almost forgot about it! I don't recall any problems whatsoever with it.
martinfan5 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Best OOB kits to build hands down are Tamiya kits, and they just keep getting better.

Not only the tires are packages separately, but most Japanese kits have real rubber tires (just smell them). They smell like 1:1 tires. It is vinyl (and its leaching plasticizer that causes tire burn). And yes, after many years, the rubber tires might harden up a bit, and even crumble when flexed. Just like old 1:1 rubber tires. How's that for realism?! But I have some Japanese kits with those rubber tires that are around 30 years old, and they are still holding up well. But I don't push the cars around making engine noises.
