89AKurt Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 1948* Chevrolet Canopy Express WIP topic Conversion of a conversion, based on the very common AMT 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup, with an All American Models resin Panel body that is a rare item due to limited production, that was modified into the super rare Canopy Express. I owned a 1948 Chevy 5 window 1/2 ton rolling wreck last century, so have always loved the Advanced Design trucks. I got parts from someone in a neighboring town who had two of these rare trucks, rust buckets sitting with other future projects, so I shot some film for reference. This is the forth '50 model I have built. Long before the internet, we had magazines to know anything about the model world, saw an ad for these resin conversions, so jumped on this Panel and a COE. When AMT came out with the kit, I immediately got one and built it. This was started April 1995, was put in the box until 2012 when the frame was done, back in the box until 2017 when the most difficult parts were done, the vacuum-formed interior. Then back in the box until February after I made a New Years resolution to finish a couple of projects. Spent over 142 hours. Scratch-built many parts, small things such as headlight reflectors and reflectors *, but also the seat *, steering shaft/box *, door handles *, taillights *, gas tank, hood hinges, mirrors, etc. (* making resin copies). Feels really good to finally complete this! Will post better pictures when conditions permit.
espo Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 I have followed your build since you started posting it here. The time, effort, and attention to the smallest detail is off the charts. Yes I love it.
David G. Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 That came out really nice! Well worth all the work you put into it. David G.

For something one does not see every day... had to give it special attention.
89AKurt Posted March 19, 2020 Author Posted March 19, 2020 Two more pictures, the first model built is in the Up A Creek diorama. Second is the COE which is a resin cab, the bed stolen from this project, parts stolen from the Chevy 409 Demolition Derby that was entered in the SAE special contest. Third is the Texaco edition that added something to the California Pit Stop diorama. This is #4. Have 3 more kits in the stash, along with a GMC resin conversion set, would like to do an ice cream truck, and an extended cab duelly. Yea, I like this kit. ?
