unclescott58 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 I like this old ad. Back when $50.00 was a big deal.
Erik Smith Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 2% off. Almost. But $50 bucks is $50 bucks! Equal to about $350 in today’s dollar.
keyser Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 $2645 with ad discount is 16% off MSRP of $3138 Pretty decent deal.

Be cool to go back in time and see the lot lined with ‘em. And also bring some 2020 bucks to cash in on the deal. Edited April 30, 2020 by Erik Smith
Lizard Racing Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Those were the days! You go to the dealer, plunk down a down payment, drop by the gas station for some 100 octane fuel and stop by JC Penny for a set of cheater slicks. Then go to the strip and do 12-second E.T.s!

Don't forget the speeding ticket on the way to the strip!

OldTrucker Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 And for 500 bucks more could get you a Hemi through the dealer here!
CapSat 6 Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I think that ad pretty much lists a standard Road Runner. The great thing about that car was that you got all of the heavy duty mechanicals standard, everything else was optional. Most "Supercars" of the time (the term "Muscle Car" came much later) usually were part of a package that pumped the price up considerably. The car in the ad shows a few extra cost items: performance hood paint, road wheels. That's not what you would get with that deal. The '68 & '69 Road Runners were part of the "taxicab with racing parts, and little else" formula. That dealer might have ordered some stripped cars, and decided to run the ad for them, knowing that they could probably get most buyers to come in on the ad, and then step up during the deal into a more loaded Road Runner (or GTX, or Sport Satellite...).

Ever notice as Luke, Jack Albertson's character dies in that scene, he still grabs the money from the guy? One of the all time great scenes in cinema. From one of the most underrated all time great comedies in film history. Edited May 1, 2020 by unclescott58
