THarrison351 Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 More cars unearthed from the bowels of my storage room. Back in the '90s the other magazine did a kit bash of a Johan '59 or '60 Desoto with an AMT Roadrunner Pro Street chassis. I couldn't locate a Desoto, but I had a 1962 Chrysler 300. I wanted to use Pastels and a monochrome scheme. The conversion went pretty well and I know I used Krylon paints at the time, because they were the only ones that I could find. The other one is the 1965 El Camino bashed with an AMT 1967 Chevelle Pro Street. These were on display uncovered for several years and suffered from exposure. They could use a thorough cleaning. These haven't seen the light of day for at least twenty-two years. All I can say is I'm glad that trend went away.
Carmak Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Late 80's / early 90's. I built a couple models this way. It was the rage and then it was gone. Cool models. Mine were not this nice (or even close).
Spottedlaurel Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Great to see them, and well done for keeping them intact.
gman Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 While trends may come and go, your work on these has held up nicely. Think of them as a little snapshot of that time- I see the odd snapshot in the form of period-built cars and trucks from various periods from the 50's to relatively recent on the street, being enjoyed. While some styles come back around, we may have to wait a while for this trend to return, but a nice build is a nice build.
Rbray47 Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I love that look, and yours look awesome. Hmmm...now I need to plan a late 80s pastel build.
Sam I Am Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I can hear the Miami Vice theme song playing right now. ? While pastels might be out of style, I do like a well done pro-street, and that is what you have achieved...x2.
Dragonhawk1066 Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 (edited) They both look sharp! And they absolutely fit right in with that scene of the early 90's. This one in particular came right to mind seeing yours. Edited June 16, 2020 by Dragonhawk1066
randyc Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I wish I had a photo of my DeSoto P/S to go with these. Mine was a dark metallic red. I used the RoadRunner chassis. It also worked under the Lil Red Express Truck for me. I think I posted that one here somewhere. Those pastels look great. Thanks for sharing.
beeRS Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I built a few in this style back in the early 90s, though my builds are not as good as these. Both are ace, and are a great way of remembering the trend of the time.
slusher Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Two great models! I have always liked the 62 300 I really dig yours.
