Funny, the 1973 John Milius movie Dillinger had both of them killed before John D. as well. Still don't think they'll ever top Warren Oates for that role.

Found and watched a few clips on U2be--it's kinda corny by today's standards. Dunno if I could sit through the whole thing again.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I recently watched a Netflix movie called "1922". It's about a farmer in Nebraska who's wife recently inherited 100 acres to add to the 80 that they already had. She wants to sell and move to the city, but he wants to keep the land and farm it. Rather than move, the farmer hatches a plan to conspire with his teenage son to kill his wife in order to stay on the farm. It's a bit strange, but it keeps you guessing. The movies is an adaptation of a Stephen King short story. Steve
BlackSheep214 Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 Rust Valley Restorer... The old guy is an idiot. Heck, I'm surprised he hasn't gone belly up with his business. I wouldn't even want to buy any of his restored cars. It never fails when they take it for a yest drive. It always never restarts the second time, something goes wrong with the engine or the car itself. Entertaining if you can put up with his crazy antics.

That sounds as bad as "Desert Car Kings," which was usually awful. The yard full of old iron was a lot more interesting than any of the idiots in the show. They "restored" a '62 Ford once by stuffing the interior of a '64 Ford into it. They also pulled the original 292 ci 2V engine, went to their pile of rusty junk and found a "HOTTER!!!" 352 ci 2V engine to bolt in. There wasn't that much difference in the 2 engines, but they destroyed the originality of the '62. When "restoring" a '65 Barracuda, they did an obvious set-up by repeating, over and over, that the big rear window was super rare Unobtainium and everybody should be careful because a replacement cost megabucks. Of course they knocked it off their flimsy stand and shattered it. Then with incredible luck, found another one! People on real Mopar restoration sites were LTAO at that. They said the Barracuda rear window is not that hard to find and not that expensive. IIRC, one commenter said he had 3 of the back windows in his wrecking yard.

In different scenes that Barracuda went from slant six to v8 and back! Agreed on the rear glass.. probably saved from every one ever junked. When I had my 65 I had two of them donated to me by two different guys!

Just to get back to topic.... I'm now about halfway through Breaking Bad. Just finished Season 3 Ep 11, which should be 32 episodes of 63 if I'm counting correctly. Next I think I'll try Ozark.
Rob Hall Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 If you like Breaking Bad, check out Better Call Saul eventually..it's the prequel, and is excellent.

Snake45 Posted August 5, 2020 Author Posted August 5, 2020 Finished rewatching Breaking Bad and El Camino last night. Enjoyed them even more seeing them in a short timeframe than I did the first time around. Might be the best TV series ever! Started watching Ozark last night, am almost through the first episode. Looks good! I'm old enough to have watched both Jason Bateman and Esai Morales grow up on camera, now both fine actors. I well remember Morales playing an Iranian kid in a TV movie about the Iranian hostage crisis back in the '80s.
Snake45 Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 Finished the first season of Ozark last night. Thanks to those of you who recommended it! It's great--probably just as good as Breaking Bad, maybe even better, if that's possible. One interesting contrast I've noticed: When Walter White was cornered, he'd tell a lie. When Marty Bird is cornered, he tells the truth, and then somehow talks the other person into doing what he wants them to anyway.

Haven't been able to watch season 3 yet.
PowerPlant Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 (edited) Glad you like Ozark! To me it is like "Breaking Bad", but for grownups Marty's character is great, but just wait for Laura Linney's Wendy character to come in full "Walter White-like bloom" Enjoy! It certainly doesn't let up in seasons 2 and 3 I am currently into the 8 episode miniseries "Manhunt: Unabomber" with Sam Worthington as the FBI profiler and Paul Bettany as Ted Kaczynski. Worth a watch. Edited August 7, 2020 by PowerPlant

imarriedawitch Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Season 4 of Ozark will be longer at 14 episodes split in two halves I believe and will be the final season. I've been watching Stranger Things, it's kind of Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets E.T. Season 1 was pretty good but so far season 2 hasn't been. The young girl the story revolves around is excellent.

Is Buffy on Netflix? I never watched it but became a Joss Wheden fan after Firefly. I'd like to give it a try.

KWT Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 I really like the stranger things series. And the Witcher. Definitely looking forward to the next offering of those. The Dirt is also an entertaining movie... Doesn't matter if you like motley Crue or not really
Mike999 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 I just saw this recent movie tonight. Looks like it was on Netflix but isn't available right now. Definitely worth a watch for history/war movie fans. "Danger Close." True story about the battle of Long Tan in August 1966. A company of 108 Australian and New Zealand troops blundered into a force of 2,500 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong. Many of the ANZAC's were draftees , new to Vietnam with no combat experience. Stick around for the end credits, they show photos of the real people in the story alongside the actors who played them. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0441881/
Snake45 Posted August 17, 2020 Author Posted August 17, 2020 (edited) I finished Ozark last week. Oh my, what a ride! It's right up there with Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Sopranos--among the best TV I've ever seen. It's even jumped ahead of Justified, Boardwalk Empire, Homeland, Ray Donovan, and Walking Dead on my list. I think my favorite character is Ruth. Moved on to Tiger King. With the exception of a couple of the lawyers and law enforcement people, everybody on that whole show should be rounded up and thrown into the cages with the lions and tigers and bears and simply forgotten about. What a bunch of slimebags! Edited August 17, 2020 by Snake45
Rodent Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 We dropped Showtime after season 9 of Shameless because it was too expensive and that was about the only thing we were watching on it. Well, Season 10 is now on Netflix and we have been getting in some bingy-cringy TV watching again.
disconovaman Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) Watched a movie on Netflix last night called Safety Not Guaranteed. it was filmed in Washington state in 2012 with a $750,000 budget. It's an Independent film that made 4.4 million at the box office. It was well received and won many awards. I liked the movie although there's some loose ends that wasn't really resolved...but all in all I enjoyed it. The plot was inspired by a 1997 issue of Backwoods Home magizine's classified ad. It turned out to be a hoax. I like movies where truth meets fiction and fantasy tells the story. Much like all movies inspired by true events, unfortunately... The acting and dialog makes it worthy of watching. Edited August 19, 2020 by disconovaman
Snake45 Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 Thanks, I'll look for that one. Just heard on the radio that the Tiger King zoo has now been permanently closed. Probably a good thing.

I always try to find the victim, the villain, and the good guy... I struggled throughout to find the good guy or the victim. (other than the animals) It's a tragic tale of immoral, licentious human behavior, wasted youth, and back stabbing. It only proves how ruthless and vindictive human beings can be... I can't wait to see the movie! ? None of those people are fit to run a Zoo or any business for that matter (IMO). In a twist... I heard Carol Baskins finally ended up with ownership of the Zoo... She was qouted saying that she would close it down.
