OldNYJim Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I wanted to do a mostly-box stock build of the Revell 29 Ford kit (and building box stock is hard for me) - so I thought I’d go full-traditional and do a classic black ‘n’ flames paintjob on this one. Added a little photoetch and some wires and pipes but managed to MOSTLY build it as Revell intended - and right out of the box these things look GREAT I think! Build thread here, for anyone curious: Thanks for looking everyone!
alan barton Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Excellent! I'm like you, it's tough to build box stock but on the other hand, you don't have to do much to make these Revell Model As look great. I really have to work on my masking skills as I would love to be able to do flames like yours! Nice job Jim. Don't forget to put a shot of it over in the Group 29 thread. Cheers Alan

I’m hoping the step-by-step I did on the flames is helpful to some people who want to shoot their own flames...love a wild paintjob! I had seen the Group 29 thread but then forgot what it was called and where it was and couldn’t find it again - thank you for reminding me what to search to find it! ?
Spottedlaurel Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I enjoyed following your WIP thread, and the finished result looks fantastic.
OldNYJim Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 Thanks guys! A quick shot of it with it’s flamed-but-streetrodded-cousin: And a little fun with a photo filter: Appreciate the nice comments!
Dennis Lacy Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I really like it. Working out of the box you’d be hard pressed to do much better. Looks great with the optional blower, the flames are tasteful and I really the like the silver steel wheels. Not only do they work really well but they’re also a nice departure from the usual black or red.
doorsovdoon Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 That is very nicely done. I like the two together picture, looks like old build vs new build.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Superb job Jim, you brought the "out of the box" to another level with your outstanding paint skills! Clean build from bumper to bumper... no bumper...!?! Perfect throughout!!! Thanks for sharing your amazing painting techniques sir!
OldNYJim Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 Got distracted by other builds and never came back to this thread - how rude of me...thanks for all the nice comments everybody!
olschoolkid Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Nicely done classic hot rod. Those flames definitely give it the classic look.
