Slotto Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 I've decided to build 2 at the same time. Why? Why not! Besides the colors, there will be subtle differences between them. Stay tuned... 2
Deuces ll Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Cool! I'm interested.... Maybe I should start doing the same... ??
doorsovdoon Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Great stuff. I did this once and it got very confusing. You'd be surprised what parts fit a particular model that aren't supposed to! xD
Slotto Posted July 29, 2020 Author Posted July 29, 2020 A little more progress... And of course I broke the hide away light assembly completely off and managed to drill completely through it. But now I'm back on track. Stay tuned... 1
kelson Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Opening the grille is a improvement, but they look really fragile if overhandled.?
bisc63 Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Looking nice so far! I tried this approach once, but found the assembly-line feel to be taking away the fun; felt too much like work instead of relaxing hobby.
Slotto Posted July 30, 2020 Author Posted July 30, 2020 You are absolutely right Rusty. I am definitely feeling it.
Bills72sj Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Nice Camaros. I like the assembly line method. I usually build two to five of similar projects at the same time. It helps me to wait for glue and paint to dry while still making continuous progress. It also lends itself to a bit of parts swapping without turning an otherwise complete kit into an organ donor. I finished 2 Freightliners earlier this year and 4 Chevelles late last year. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/147864-2019-a-chevelle-year-apparently/ http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/148169-brbo-2020-triple-drive-white-freightliner-coe/ http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/150940-white-freightliner-coe-day-cab-dual-drive/
Slotto Posted August 9, 2020 Author Posted August 9, 2020 Back on these two. Engines are assembled and are in their nests. I had a wired distributor in the parts box so I decided to use it. I opted for different intakes and used 4 bbl carburetors for both. I painted one set of headers black and left the other white. Also used 2 different colored sway bars just to mix things up. I have been swapping parts all along between the two and haven't ran into any issues yet. One chassis was stamped Revell the other Revell Monogram. I've decided that the blue one will be an RS. Stay tuned... 1
Tom Geiger Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 I like it! I will be watching. I built the two identical 1950 Chevy pickups at the same time. There was an economy of time and effort to spraying all the parts at the same time and doing two assemblies side by side. Identical is easy. I also built my two different Dodge Caravans together. Adds in the dimension of having to keep track of which parts etc go to each. And now I have two Jeepsters going, that will be very different. Using options in the kit, one will be the four passenger convertible and the other is a pickup. I have also substituted in a different engine into the pickup. I’m finding it a mixed bag to build this way. There is the issue that you don’t want to start the same kit again right after finishing one. It does take longer to build two. I do find myself concentrating on one that is moving ahead quicker. And it can get confusing at times. I am building these from a big parts box and have caught myself prepping and painting three of the same parts! I do have four engines sitting on the bench.
tbill Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Looking good. If you think 2 at once is fun, a few years back I did 6 at once. I really felt like I had an assembly line going. 1
Dragonhawk1066 Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Those are looking good Steve! I very much look forward to seeing the finished product!

Slotto Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 Just finished up the bright work. I used my own brew of BMF. Its half as thick as the commercial stuff. That being said, it tears much easier but the upside, overlaps are almost undetectable. Stay tuned...

I imagine if you die and wind up in Purgatory they hand you a case of that kit!
doorsovdoon Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 The foiling looks good, they're coming along nicely.

espo Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 The wood trim on the dash looks perfect with the Custom Interior package.
