Can-Con Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 Got the front end about where I can now start on other things like the back end and top chop. Not %100 yet but the body work that's left like final fitment of the hood will be done after the other big stuff is dome so I can do all the finesse work at once.

As to the color(s) on mine.... Kinda thinking of maybe a light seafoam green, fading with either a darker jade green or something in the turquoise/blue line. Testor flake gold with a burnt orange fade is also a possibility. Also thinking of pearl white, maybe. Might have to check out the nail polish store soon. I see I'm not the only one who sees the similarity to the 2G Corvair. I also see a little Sting Ray in there, too. Maybe it's because I'm currently watching Ozark, with lots and lots of boats, but I'm also thinking about overall pearl white with blue fade along the lower edges of the body, like a waterline. Might work well with the boat-ish front end. Hmmmmmmm.... I vote for the gold metal flake to Candy Orange fade. YES!!!!
chris chabre Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 IDC what color you paint it...PLEASE put Buick wire wheels on it

I haven't even started my rebuild yet...trying to discipline myself to getting another one finished before I start it. Model on!
gseeds Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Very cool looks, I know the hood can be a bear to get it to fit right!
Can-Con Posted September 27, 2020 Author Posted September 27, 2020 got this far this afternoon. Cut the top off with an X-acto saw and added a small tab of sheet plastic to the underside of the back of the opening. I was originally going to cut the sail panels from the back of the roof also but as it turned out, I didn't have to. I just made a relief cut up each side so it would spread apart. I just sank the sail panels down at their forward ends and pulled the main part of the roof up. In the end I'll have about a 2 to 2 1/2 inch chop. When the sail panels are solid , I'll cut the base of the A-pillars and vent posts away, make notches where the cuts are. When I glue the top of the windshield frame back to the roof, the bottom of the pillars will slot into the notches.
Snake45 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Very cool! You are WAY ahead of me but then with the top chop, I guess you need to be. I'm finishing up a Mustang for the BOYD build deadline (Sep 30), but when that's done, I'll dig mine out and dig into it.
Can-Con Posted October 3, 2020 Author Posted October 3, 2020 (edited) OK, I got the top roughed in I cut the windshield away from the body and cut some notches in the cowl and door tops for the pillars to notch into. The line at the front of the roof is how much I ground off it to get the slant I wanted on the windshield. glued some tabs to the top of the frame and front edge of the roof. Here's the results with the windshield glued down and the gaps in the sail panel filled with strips of plastic. It should take very little filler to finish it up for paint. I see I'll have to re-check the passenger side window opening. Looks higher at the front but I think it's just an illusion Edited October 3, 2020 by Can-Con
Snake45 Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 Looking GOOD! Now that I've wrapped up my latest BOYD build, I can dig mine out and get to work. Hope I can catch up soon!
Can-Con Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 Using the AMT '65 annual custom rear pan and tail light bezels. The bumper was dremmeled down from the kit part. I also started flaring the rear wheel openings to match the front custom parts.
ZTony8 Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Your front end treatment is coincidentally very reminiscent of a 71-73 Opel Manta.
Can-Con Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 Kinda hard to tell in these pics but I also raised the height of the peaks on the rear 1/4s so they would be closer to the size of the peaks on the front fenders and redid the flares of the rear wheel openings to match the front..
Snake45 Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Those are subtle changes but I see them! As soon as I finish my BOYD build Corvette, I need to dig out my Impala and get to work on it. Thanks for the reminder.

I'd meant to e-mail you back but haven't gotten around to it. BTW, how do you like my new signature? ???

Spottedlaurel Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) Great to check back in and see this one progressing, the roof chop goes well with the front end. slusher Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Looks good Steve! I like the box art custom build on the 65 Chevy....
espo Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I had been enjoying watching your build so I'm glad you are getting back to work on it. I have one I started many years ago, with no chop and just the front end done so far. The small details to the body really do enhance the body lines and the rear wheel opening redo gives the appearance of the body having been channeled.
Can-Con Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 The silver shows all the imperfections I need to address before actual paint.
Snake45 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Looking good! I really need to get started on mine. Maybe this week....
Spottedlaurel Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 That looks fantastic, you mod's have really enhanced its looks. Are they your chosen wheels? I think they suit it well.
moparfarmer Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Fantastic work and nicely done..Sure hope you can paint and by the look of what you show now its going to Pop when you get it done..Waiting to see what the finished product looks like..Very nice work..

I think they suit it well. Those are just place holders Nigel. To show what the ride height should be. I haven't decided on the exact wheels yet but they'll be very '60s and have white wall tires.
