Steve H Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 Hi all, This project was inspired by the awesome Modelhaus resin rear tires. I would describe it as a parts box raid, and a very fun build. Started with the “checkers” ‘37 Ford. Body channeled over frame, frame Z’d. Bass wood bed, rails and bumper. Exhaust is solder with aluminum tubing for stacks. Engine is from the pro street Firebird kit with various parts box stuff and ignition wires. Grille was shortened to align with the cowl, top chopped about 3 1/2 scale inches. Decals are home made. Paint is: red primer, rust, silver, flat black and tan, all topped with Tamiya olive drab. Careful sanding to create patina. Hope you like it, comments welcome. Cheers, Steve
doorsovdoon Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 Very nicely done! Parts box builds are great, always unique. Those rear wheels are HUGE!?
1930fordpickup Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 Nice work. Those rear tires are spot on .
Steve H Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 Thanks for the comments guys. It was a fun build. The rear tires do make the truck in my opinion, and yes, they are HUGE. Cheers, Steve
jamesG Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Great job particularly on the wood. I gotta ask about those tires though, are they resin or something else?

Hi James, thanks for the kind words. That was my first time working with wood on a model. I gave it a light stain, tried to give it a bit of a used look without going overboard. The tires are resin units from Modelhaus. I got them before they initially retired, however I believe they are now making tires again. I quick search would confirm that. If you can get some I highly recommend it, they’re awesome. I have the next size down too, not sure what they will end up on yet...

I'll check on them though I prefer vinyl tires those monsters would look awesome on some future builds.

Not sure what wheel size to use (I'm guessing typical kit wheels are 14 or 15's. Also dont know how to modify wheels to fit these monsters and be accurate. Would I have to mod the wheel backs only or both halves?

As I recall, I did not need to modify, if I did it was not much. Regardless, I’m sure you won’t have a hard time finding wheels to fit. They are awesome, I highly recommend buying some. They made me smile when I got them, they were so big. Cheers, Steve
AmericanMuscleFan Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Another great build Steve! The patina look is spot-on and the wood box is very cool and well made as other have mentioned. The box is just large enough for a case of cold beers... and a medium size pizza! What else needed? You have good taste and an amazing builder my friend!!!
Goose1957 Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I'm not usually into this style of truck, but your's keeps me coming back for more looks. Great workmanship in your build. The tires do look good on it. That pro stock engine would make that one fun ride. Probably need it to turn those meats, lol. Very nice build. Jeff
