yellowsportwagon Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Ok so here goes. Johan Rebel Machine on a 90s nascar chassis. Or two?! Gives it a lower stance without serious fabrication. Also cures the molded in single exhaust. Gives it a modern frt suspension too.
DoctorLarry Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Real Jo Han or resin copy? Only real one on EBAY was $225. Must be rare?
Tom Geiger Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Cool! Glad to see a use for those NASCAR kits! They are no sells at shows even at $5 and $10 each so it’s good to see one gone!
DoctorLarry Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Tom, they are cheap but what does one do with the accumulated bodies that are of no use???

espo Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Interesting subject. I remember these with the AMC 401 cu in and a 4 speed. They were a lot quicker than most people realized until all they saw was tail lights. I like your chassis idea and look forward to seeing how this turns out.
DoctorLarry Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Sourcing the engine from the JoHan kit?

A friend of mine in high school had a 401/4 speed dual quad AMX that was a very sweet, quick ride.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Nice and cool project Tim! I had the same idea using a 69 or a 70 body (I have both in my collection). I have always loved AMC cars because they are rare and often overlooked. I will check back your progress... I'm very interrested... l love the subject!!!

THEN the circular file! Yup! As long as I got my $5-10 worth of parts! I have a bunch of parts kits (not NASCAR) and people on the boards will be looking for something I have, and I’m always happy to contribute it to their project! Or combine a couple of them in a bag and put up an eBay auction.. maybe in the slot car category! Ya never know who will buy what!
yellowsportwagon Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 Ok so engine mockup has started. And rear spoiler has been built.
doorsovdoon Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Nice work on the chassis. I love AMC products, like British Leyland over here, it's a darn shame they went under. Both companies had such great cars, and the list of 'what could have been' is endless!
gks1964 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 This is great!! Had a 69 Javelin, it meet a pole and the pole won!!

I'd take a few at $5.........I use them under most of the 70's era builds....god chassis really.....A guy once offered my a large lot of the AMT NASCAR for $1 each....if I took all 300 that day!
yellowsportwagon Posted September 8, 2020 Author Posted September 8, 2020 Ok the frt wheel tubs have been made out of some spare rear nascar wheel houses. Luckily the factory radiator support and firewall fit still.
Dave Van Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 I figured you'd turn that Rebel into a Matador!!!!

I had some listed on eBay starting at $1 plus shipping and no takers, so I've kept about six AMT kits and four Monogram kits for future kitbashing.

Bucky Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 Great project! The Machine is one of my all time favorite muscle cars.
