1929 Ford Pickup 80's Contemporary Street Rod - A Tim Boyd Tribute!

Dennis...I just love it when a modeling plan comes together.  I'm smiling so much right now my face is hurting (well not really, but you know what I mean).  Those mockup pix look great and I think the paint scheme came out looking really good.  Onward!  Can't wait to see it when it is finally done. 

BTW, are you going with a plated, purple, or black grille shell/radiator?

Rodney ...oh yeah on that crispy tape....the whole thing would probably fall apart if I just breathed on it (smile)....no gripping ability left whatsoever.  Hope I can remove the adhesive when I take it back apart!  TB

Thanks, Tim! I was smiling just as much last night once I saw it propped up. The radiator shell is purple, black headlights and taillight. 

I can't wait to show you guys the interior once I finished the detail painting!

One thing you have a really good handle on is colour vison!  You could obviously "see" the colours right back when you painted the engine block pink. The whole car is right on target - like you, can't wait to see it finished!

Now moving to the present, during my recent hiatus from writing model car magazine stories, I've been digging out some old, partially completed projects and assessing what would be required to finish them (one dates all the way back to - yep - 1969).  One of those is that same Jim Jacobs pickup project.  Over the years, the real truck has remained remarkably true to its 1978 configuration, as documented in a color story in Street Rodder late that year and in many magazine and event appearances over the ensuing four decades, indeed it was photographed just earlier this year and showed up in the GoodGuys Gazette looking as good as ever.  

Here are the photos I took today of the project, completed with its 1982 (just after painting) masking tape still in place. 

I'm not committing to finishing it this year, but with inspiration from all the terrific new building activity being shown by the contributors to this thread started by Dennis, one never knows....

OK! When you dropped the note earlier, I said to myself, self Tim Boyd is going to pull his Jim Jacob's "Pete and Jakes" Closed Cab Pickup model out of mothballs and surprise us!  This has turned out to kind of a special quest for some of us. @Rocking Rodney Rat and @Dennis Lacy have been trying to get me back to the bench, for a while now.  This project was what it took to get me to build something in less than three years.  When I found out that one of my mentors was interested in a build that @Dennis Lacy had started to a build from the '80s as a tribute, I had to at least peak in and see what was going on!  Then when I found out that @Rocking Rodney Rat was starting to pull parts together, I knew something was up.  I figured I had to come up with an idea, one that was current and that would catch the eye of all builders, both young & old, alike!

Getting you and the rest of the MCM Forum community involved a Tribute build and urging you to bring out such an iconic model, well... that is so awesome a awe inspiring to me and so many others, @tim boyd!  Thank you! -KK

That’s huge! We may only be getting a handful of active commenters but that proves we’ve got a lot of watchers!  Who knows. By the time you and I finish our trucks maybe it’ll hit 15k or 20k!

Just an idea of where modeling has come, over the years.  Imagine how many have learned something from history to current day modeling!  Totally enjoying the ride on the time machine journey we've been on from the start of this thread!  We've come a long way, guys!  Honored to part of something so inspirational!!

I want to see more from everyone following and/or lured in to the progress on all of the builds, so far... -KK

@tim boyd Noticed a modification that you made while building the replica of Jim Jacob's "Pete and Jakes" Closed Cab Pickup, I made the same modification to the '29 PU V-12 Midnight Auto Salvage...

Closing in the rear big lite on the early release of the PU.

The later issue came with the small back lite... -KK

Spent some time checking out the difference between the older '29A Roadster that Revell first released and the latest offering.

The Crossmembers are different for each of the '29A Roadster kits:

Older 140 (right) & the newer 141 Crossmember (left)

And, the adaptor was added to cover the distance from the post on the older crossmember and the pad on the C4 Transmission.

@Kit Karson I was reviewing the parts list for the ‘29 roadster the other day and the current offering includes both trans supports, one is for the highboy snd the other is for the channelled rod. There are quite a number of duplicated parts to build one or the other.

The cross members in the first roadster issue have a different length tab because of the Nailhead engine. The cross members in the 30 Coupe and new roadster issue are the same because they both have the Chevy engine.
