afx Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 (edited) While visiting recently with my friend Mr. Bradford (HRM) he pulled this gem from his stash. Knowing my affection for Porsche he bestowed it upon me, yes it is good to have friends. Having had it for many years he doesn't recall the source. Only the body and wing are included. It's not a HRM claiber casting but I think I can do something with it. The wing provided is the wrong style for the car I wish to build. . I replaced it with a correct RSR wing from Reji, filled the incorrect NACA ducts in the fenders , opened all the various cast closed slots and performed some overall cleanup. afx Posted November 30, 2020 Author Posted November 30, 2020 (edited) Cleanup of the rear fenders and improved fitting of the whale tail wing. Fit a Fujimi chassis. Edited November 30, 2020 by afx
stitchdup Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 That looks good, I'd forgotten just how wide these are
afx Posted December 1, 2020 Author Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) Thanks Les. After a marginally successful attempt to make a windshield from clear flat stock I started over with Fujimi 964 kit glass. After reshaping the opening and replacing all the molding trim I have a decent fit. Carved a channel to accept the back glass. Edited December 1, 2020 by afx
afx Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) The dry break openings in the hood didn't match my reference so I filled them and drilled new ones. Removed the lip along the bottom of the front air dam as again didn't match my reference. Edited December 4, 2020 by afx
TransAmMike Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Lovin' the widebody look. Gonna be cool for sure JC.
Belugawrx Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Looking good JC..nice front glass fitting ??
iamsuperdan Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 That's going to be quite awesome when finished!
afx Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) Thank you gentlemen for the interest and the comments. Wheels and tires are from a Porsche 917 built-up I have in the stash. I had to repair the beads on the rims where the builder cut them from the sprue. I won't be using the front wheels as the car I'm replicating had the radial cooling fans installed. The radial fan inserts are from the Nitto/AMT 935 kit. I'm using the 917 kit wheel backs and parts box rims to complete the front wheel assembly. Edited December 5, 2020 by afx
Codi Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 These cars were almost cartoonish looking back in the day they were so wide. And I LOVED em'. This is fantastic JC and the wheels are a great choice too. Good luck with the rest. cheers, tim
afx Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 (edited) Thanks Tim. Yea the size of the rubber on these beasts was over the top. It was the hairy chested 70s! Edited December 6, 2020 by afx

iamsuperdan Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 You probably have enough reference pics, but here's a link to some awesome high res shots. Lots of detail here to absorb. I use this site a lot for reference. https://canepa.com/photo-gallery/1974-porsche-911-rsr6034/
