Hey George, I just got my NEW '60 Ford Starliner kit from John this morning!! Helped him a bit with the '49 Ford kit and he sent the '60 kit my way. THANKS JOHN!!!!! This has to be one of the best looking kit box layouts I have seen in a looooong time. Crisp art, great color choices, and I really like the idea of the parts overview layout on the bottom of the box; what a great idea. If this is any idea of what to expect from John and the crew in the future we are in for some mighty fun times!

hey guys , would the frame on the starliner be body color or black? same question for the floor pan

Frame would be a low gloss black, most Fords of that era had Red oxide primer on the floor pans with some body color overspray. Many northern cars got the floor pans undercoated which was also black so either way could be correct.

Thank you for the info!

one last question, the instructions call for the engine to be black is that correct? could it also be blue ?

Yes the engine would be black for a stock version.

Okay. One huge, glaring oversight in this spectacular Trophy Series kit.

WHERE IS THE FRICKIN' TROPHY??!!

I wanted another trophy, dammit!

You know, this is a nice kit.. but the 60 is so dang UGLY!! why can't they do the 62 or 63 or 64 this way? Or better yet the 58.... now that would be something to crow about.

I guess ugly is a subjective thing, I love the flat fin cars. The new Hot Rod TV is on a car from Bodie Stroud's shop called Scarliner. It's a fairly incredible combination of the '60 Starliner and the new Ford GT. The engine and trans were used with a handbuilt frame and GT suspension parts. The gauges and switchgear from the GT were used inside. Amazing. The body was left pretty much as is, I think they shaved the door handles and they left the signature stars on the sail panel. It also looked like they went for a solid red instead of a metallic for the body color. No mention of the cost of essentially re-bodied GT, but it was a ground up build, first rate. And what a cool 1:25 it would make.

I got one of these recently as I was VERY impressed by the beautiful box art! I've always liked the 1960-61 Fords (I saw enough of 'em as a kid) and the Starliner is one of Fords best designs to come out of that era.

I bought every opne of these kits I could get cheap as engine donors (I'm an FE fan) and now you're telling me it has TWO engines in it? WOOT!!!

Yup Brian! I'm looking at the kit right now and they give you TWO complete engines to build! One to put in the car, and one to display next to it!

Or, in my case, one to replace the engine you pirated from another '60 Starliner kit to use in a hot rod! The fact that I already have eight or nine of these kits stashed away (stock and custom versions) makes me reluctant to spring for this latest issue, but it looks like I just oughtta bite the bullet, huh?

Cruz, yours is looking GOOD!

Got one of these kits too. I think that all of the basics for building a nice mild kustom are there. The whitewalls really surprised me! The extra detailed chassis doesn't matter a whole lot to me since I usually don't look at the undercarriage on my shelf, but it's just what the majority of today's modelers are looking for. The box art is magnificent and many of you might not even know what that came from, but there was models with that same style box which are pretty rare now. Brad's artwork is soooo nice! I think when mine is built I will cut the box up and frame it just because it's so cool!

AMT is touching home with me and really always has. To me, the hobby is actually surging and getting better.

The Starliner kit is great, go get one before they are gone! THANKS AMT!

I didn't look for a trophy inside, but to me it doesn't matter if it's missing...it's not a collectible, it will be built.

I've done everything but the paint and subsequent stuff. This is a really thick, heavy body. That prevented sink marks, even in the roof with all of the headliner detail. But the body I have suffers from die alignment problems. The area at the base of the sail panels humps a good scale inch at the seam. I've been planing gradually. Instead of rescribing the trim lines, I'm just going to go with cutting the foil to the correct width and wrapping that around the edge. I'm still loving the kit, the finished motor hole and dual 4 bbl are really nice.

Mine is done, had a couple of fit issues with the chassis to body phase but overall it was pretty good. I re-scribed all my panel and side molding lines, take your time here, you will be glad at the end..... B)

Looks like I was too late to the party on this kit. Does anybody have any leads online, etc. where I could find one?

Nothing wrong with that. ;) They are easily found on eBay for $15 or less, or www.jimnohio.com is pretty reasonable on OOP kits. You might try the Wanted section here, too.

Keep in mind it comes in two versions, stock and custom, but both are easy to find.

Or the latest release which includes all the parts. It has the retro box art.

Looks like AMT did just that on the pre-finished "Masterpiece" "kits":

This kit was created from all new tooling, with nothing from the original '60s era '60 Starliner, correct?
