No kidding! I have a handful of these, with various ideas in mind. But now I'm hesitant. I wonder if this is why these kits are half the cost of every other Tamiya kit on Ebay.
JollySipper Posted February 2, 2021 Author Posted February 2, 2021 Thanks for all the comments, guys....... I might should note that the fitment issues may be different for everyone, depending on how the assembly of the engine cradle and all that is done.....
JollySipper Posted February 2, 2021 Author Posted February 2, 2021 A little more progress, got the glass trimmed up that calls for it...... all the rest of the window trim is on the body. The rest of the assembly of this calls for the body and pan to be painted. That's the next progress to be made, getting things ready for paint......
Bainford Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Nice work so far. Well done getting the engine fit issues sorted. It's looking good.
JollySipper Posted February 12, 2021 Author Posted February 12, 2021 Hey, fellas..... Just wanted to show that I've got the body in primer. It hasn't been sanded yet, I want to wait until a day that I can actually paint before sanding, so everything is freshly clean... I did decide to blend in the rear wing, and it doesn't really pose a problem as to paint coverage......... Thanks!
TransAmMike Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Looking good TJ, one day I'll start minebut not until I see the in progress posts of the build.
JollySipper Posted February 14, 2021 Author Posted February 14, 2021 Thanks, Mike! I think that when it comes time to fit this thing together, I'm going for a "one and done" deal.... There won't be much test fitting, I'll just wait until it's time for it to go together. Hopefully it won't bite me in the rump doing so.......

JollySipper Posted March 22, 2021 Author Posted March 22, 2021 I'm skipping around with my projects..... Finally got a chance to get the 959 in paint. This is two coats of color and two wet coats of clear over gray primer. It's as it came out of the can, still need to wet sand and buff back out....... This will sit a few days before anything else is done to it...... Thanks!
JollySipper Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 Pretty high praise, Thank you sir........ The primer was Rustoleum's 2X Ultra Cover in gray, and the paint and clear are DupliColor.......... Sorry I forgot to mention that.
JollySipper Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 Thank you, Carl...... The beauty of working with DupliColor, I was able to go ahead and polish it some today....... Thanks a bunch for looking and comment freely........
DiscoRover007 Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Thats a really pretty shade of red. Which one did you use? Was is it their lacquer clear as well? I stay away from Duplicolor paints because of the humidity of where i live. I also tend to get ghost lines with their stuff.
JollySipper Posted March 25, 2021 Author Posted March 25, 2021 Thanks, James! It's Toreador Red, it's a Ford color in their Perfect Match line...... I also used Perfect Match clear. The humidity isn't too bad here yet, but during the summer it can cause problems with blushing...... I've heard of guys using a dehydrator to help with that, tho........
slusher Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I did a model of my 1:1 Ranger that was painted in that color" my Ranger was 94..
JollySipper Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 Carl, you might remember the Thunderbird that I built about a year ago..... This is the same paint (same can, even). It's very close to the Canyon Red that those T Birds came in.
Pete75 Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Nice one! Got that one in the stash, too. Like the colour choice - it really suits it ?
TransAmMike Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Continues to look great TJ, love the color and finish. I used that same color Duplicolor paint on a few models ago and it's much darker. ?
Matt P Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Nice build and color combo, works pretty good together, keep it up!
Dann Tier Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Fantastic kolor for this car!!!....love how this is turning out!!!!
JollySipper Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 Thanks a whole bunch, Guys........ Right now the trim needs to be done around the windows, maybe that will be the next update for this......
JollySipper Posted April 5, 2021 Author Posted April 5, 2021 Turns out the next update is the chassis............ I've started the trim around the windows, once that's done it could be time to join the chassis/interior to the body....... Thanks! and feel free to comment.....
