Rocking Rodney Rat Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 (edited) Here's my entry in the TIM Boyd Tribute '29 pickup build some of us have been having fun with. I didn't do very much detail on this one, just a fairly quick build using some of the features of the original in the late '80s, early '90s. Body is from the Revell kit released many times in several different guises. -Doors glued shut with scratch built non-operational top and bottom hinges. -Rear pan stepped down and tidied up. -Rear fenders bobbed slightly. I think the stock length model A fenders drop down too low and it makes the rear end look droopy. IMHO. -Visor shortened, stock visor looks too long and droopy to me. IMHO. -Chassis z'ed in the rear. -Rear suspension, Corvette IRS style sourced form the AMT '34 5ive window coupe. -Front suspension form the Revell '32 series. -Floor pan from Revell '32 5ive window coupe. -Seats from the parts box. -Dash scratch built with Model Car Garage photoetched gauge panel. -Engine is an SBF from the Revell Speedwagon, lower intake manifold, front cover and oil pan aftermarket chromed. -Wheels from the Revell '37 convertible. Front tires from the '37 kit, rear tires from the Revell '32 roadster kit. -Front headlights from Revell Model A, rear tail lights from Accu-Pro, remember them?) for that billet look! -Paint is Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue (looks lighter than in pix). Visor, top and bed cover Tamiya flat white. Minwax Polyurethane clear shot thru my airbrush. -Bits and pieces from here and there. -More pix here: https://public.fotki.com/jferren/rrrs-29-pickup-tim-/ -RRR Accu-Pro (remember Thanks for looking! -RRR Edited February 22, 2021 by Rocking Rodney Rat 1
Kit Karson Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 You left out two of the most impressive pictures, Brother! RRR's '29 PU Interior... did you notice the GoodGuys decal? -KK
tim boyd Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Congrats Rodney....you absolutely NAILED it! Even though the thread was to be 1980''s era Model A Closed Cab pickups, yours comes off as being even more versatile in its theme as could be seen as a current build even today, three decades plus later. Chassis detail outstanding...interior really tasty...an excellent choice.....and a great stance. Outstanding! TIM

alan barton Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Yeah , what Tim said, nailed it! The things that worked for me are the lack of a headlight bar ( I like headlight bars but this is so right for the 80's) and the billet dash and taillights. I have these pieces in my stash, it is time I used them! Did you use bits of Evergreen or similar to replace the working hinges? The whole car sits right, looks right and just flat works. I may still have a crack at this! Cheers Alan
espo Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Beautiful looking pickup. I like how you listed everything that went into this build as there is so much done it would be easy to miss some of it.
Dennis Lacy Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 So glad you joined in the fun. I think the truck turned out awesome! Definitely doesn’t look like a quickie build. The color is perfect and as the owner of an old 5.0 Mustang I love the engine. But, I think my favorite area of the truck is the interior. I don’t know that I’d ever think to use those colors together but it works! My surf shop truck will be joining you on the shelf shortly. Almost there!
Bullybeef Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 That’s an awesome build, I think you nailed the 80’s smooth look quite well.
Koellefornia Kid Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Looks like it came right from an early 90s issue of Rod & Custom! Awesome!
