lordairgtar Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 One thing in the forums has bothered me. Pictures containing the Photobucket watermark overlayed over the pic. Makes it very hard to study detail I want to see. Is there a way to not have the watermark?

The watermark came into existence after PB started charging to host images, so if you see it, the account holder did not pay up. We no longer have the ability to edit our posts after a certain time period, so unfortunately, most of those dead (when the image was deleted) or watermarked PB images are trapped in time.
Oldcarfan27 Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 This is a pet-peeve for me. Damaged or missing pics in older threads ruin the articles for me. I've tried looking up old stories and builds on this forum. But, to me, they're useless if there's no images attached to them. Moderators might as well delete them if we can't see the subject that's being written about!

If not, I will usually just hit the back button. I know...the info is still there but it’s sad that all that good info is diminished or useless without the pics.
Tom Geiger Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Which is why the site now hosts images! My early posts linked to my photo albums on Fotki, which is still active and paid for. Still, as they’ve moved stuff between servers and such over the years, images come up as not found.

That's a definite improvement! Now if we could still edit the posts, we could repair the missing photos.

I suspect that if you are willing to update the photos, if you were to contact the moderators, they would likely work out a solution with you. Nobody likes post with "broken" photos.
Brian Austin Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Interestingly, a certain long-running hobby forum has been criticized for not switching to a format such as this forum's. The argument went that discussions and photos would be archived instead of disappearing from the board after a few months. I'd counter this argument with the point that, yes, pictures often disappeared and links broke, rendering threads half-useless. Prior to Photobucket's watermarking policy, they simply made your images disappear from forums unless you forked over $400 (some folk likened it to ransom). So now at least the images are somewhat visible despite the watermarks, rather than just the broken links of 2017 or so in their place.
