That's pretty harsh Patrick.  The FSM Readers Gallery often features non-military models.  Cars, bikes, airliners, figures,  sci-fi. Anythign goes.  The photos I submitted years ago was an automotive/motorcycle subjects.

Didn't they ask for your address?  Back when  I submitted my photo, it was through the snail mail (and a color slide).

I didn't submit anything.

Apparently someone else submitted the photos. ^_^

Ah well. In that case, never mind.  Sounds like you have a good friend somewhere.

Congrats, Steve!

Hey, everybody, Steve kicked some bootocks in the DESERT SCALE CLASSIC dscV16  Virtual Venue Model Car Championship last year, too!  His Cutlass won its class (Factory Stock) and a Master Award (Best Interior)!

Can't wait to see what he has in store for us this year!

Not harsh, I've been in conversations with "rivet counting" military modelers and some commented that "cars are easy, lots of kids build them".

I get amused when they try to apply a smooth gloss paint job, though.

Lots of kids build military and aviation models too. ;)

I suppose there are probably a lot of modelers from these genres that think that model car builders are just taking what's in the box and throwing it together.

While this might be a pretty common practice in their world, I don't think that they realize how much customization, kit bashing and scratch building a good portion of us car modelers do.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like there's only so much room for those practices, outside of paint and decals when you're building a P-51 Mustang.

In short, I think a lot of the military, aviation and nautical modelers are pretty ignorant of the variety of techniques and skills that are involved with what some of us do.

??

And I can't thank you and your colleagues enough for the recognition Danno!

It's always such a great honor to have fellow hobbyists recognize and appreciate the effort that you have put into a project.

I've already entered the fray with a couple of projects for the "dscV17" show, and I'm considering adding something to the "Curbside" category as I have a ton of curbside builds that I have completed over the years.

I might just have to pick one out to enter. ^_^

I'm just as much in the dark as you are on this.

Photographs of this model are all over the place, so your guess is as good as mine as to who submitted them.

I'm just hoping that when I get a copy of the magazine, I don't see someone else's name under the photos. :D

. . . and then we have some car modelers talking trash about military/sci-fi modelers.  If I ever heard one of those comments you cited above, I would just tell them "Easy?  Sure, whatever".  Those childish trash-talking a-holes exists on both sides of the hobby. There really should not be any reason to talk down about any hobby.  Obviously those selected few talking trash are idiots (yes, idiots).

Here is a photo of the page with those photos. I still think it is strange that someone other than you submitted the photos, without even telling you.  But the end result is gratifying.  Actually 2 photos were published (bonus points).  Judging by the write-up, whoever published them knew lots of info about the model.  FSM prefers high-res photos, so unless you have high-res photos posted in the Internet, someone took those with their camera.  The plain background  might give you a clue where they were taken.

Hmmm, Now I have a general idea of where that might have come from.

Those are photos that I took, and the write up sounds quite familiar.

I believe that's very close to exactly what I had written as a description when I submitted this model on an online NNL show that I participated in last fall.

So I'm guessing now that it might be someone involved with that particular NNL that submitted them.

Doesn't bother me at all.

I'm just happy to see them in print. ^_^

By the way, the plain background on the top photo appears to have been altered a little.

Here is the original photo.

That's why I'm glad when people can see what realism is possible when building cars and trucks.

Not bashing anyone for building military or aircraft. I appreciate the effort that it takes to create realistic miniatures - whatever the genre.

Seriously?  Easy? I build largely replica stock, and I do every bit as much research into factory correct colors, opt, etc as any aircraft or armor modeler. I hate that attitude.

So the mystery is explained.  I'm glad I posted a photo of the page with the model featured on it.
Interesting how they Photoshopped the photo - it doesn't seem to detract from the model.  Nice to know that they took photos from the virtual contest, and used them in the magazine (with proper credit given).

Yup. I’m okay with it.

It's also strange that FSM published the photos without Steve's permission. Even if someone from FSM had taken the photos, they still need permission from the builder to publish them.

I suspect that if FSM was a sponsor of the online NNL contest, and Steve entered those photos in the contest, he probably at that time gave his permission for them to use photos.

I’m not sure about that.

I’m assuming that once a photo is in the public domain and has not been copyrighted, it’s fair game.

Although I was contacted and asked for permission to use images of my ‘68 Olds in an upcoming issue of MCM.

Steve, MCM has not been released yet has it?  I don’t want to miss it.
