Teddie Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 Guys, I'm 53 and haven't built a model in 30+ years. A few years ago I bought some model kits I built when I was a kid. Building models was one of the best times in my life and I love to think about the day I finally get up enough nerve to build the one I want to RE-build first. MPC's red flip-nose 57 Vette. I have three others in boxes, but that's the one I want to dive back into with. I'm going to try my hand at using an air brush for painting. My anxiety about painting the body is holding me back from starting, to be honest. As much as I loved building models in my youth, I remember screwing a good many of my models up when trying to paint the body. I'm hoping I can find some help on the first steps in what to get and how to use the airbrush and paints here on the forum. A little side-trivia about me. If you ever played an old video game called Unreal Tournament 2004, I was the guy who made DM-Deck17 and CTF-FaceClassic for the retail game. Good times. Anyway, thanks for having me. I'm so blown away by the skill level and the amount of detail you folks put into your models. You've inspired me to get back on the horse and start my most loved hobby again. Looking forward to talking and learning from you folks. Teddie
Miatatom Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 (edited) Welcome back, Teddie. I've hears that vette is a tough one to build. Never tried it myself. As for airbrushes, the Paasche H is a great beginner brush and relatively inexpensive. Edited May 31, 2021 by Miatatom
hedotwo Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 Welcome Teddie... I wouldn't worry too much about the quality of your early builds. We all learn skills as we go and that's the best part of model building in my opinion. Good luck and be sure and post your builds.
Venom Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 That’s awesome Teddie!... Welcome aboard. Looking forward to when you post some stuff up?
Zippi Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 Welcome back to the hobby Teddie. As mentioned the Paasche H is a nice air brush to start with and that's what I use. Practicing on plastic spoons will help a lot.
k357 Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Welcome back Teddie, that's the thing about our hobby, it's always here waiting for us.... And I speak for the rest of the crew here, we're here to help whatever way we can, just ask, remember this, a wise old man once told me the only stupid question is the one you DON'T ask !
Rockford Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Welcome Teddy. I came back to the hobby after some time and you soon start getting back into the swing of things, I'm sure you'll soon be building kits like you never could before!
