carbuilder1950 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) @70 Sting For me all the good clear coats are gone. When I saw my acrylic clear coat disappearing, I bought several cases. Same with my good primers. The world has changed for model car builders. Have you tried using NOVUS #2 plastic polish. Used it for over 20 years, and still using it. My only go-to for shiny, smooth paint. Edited October 15, 2021 by carbuilder1950
70 Sting Posted October 16, 2021 Author Posted October 16, 2021 @carbuilder1950 I did use Novus #1 to remove a blemish in the Tamiya X22 Clear. Is Novus #2 a fine scratch remover? Do you ever use Novus #3?
RAMBENNA Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 fabulous build, looks great very nice detail. 1
Steve H Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Very nice build Harry. The colour combo looks fantastic, I’m a huge fan of embossing powder for carpet, you did a great job on the interior. All around beautiful build sir. My only slightly critical comment would be the lack of brakes… Pegasus (and others) do make disc brakes for their wheels, might have looked nice with body colour calipers? Cheers, Steve 1
70 Sting Posted October 18, 2021 Author Posted October 18, 2021 @Steve H Yeah, you're right. Brakes would have be a nice detail and I agree on the colour, too. I still have to get a better handle on aftermarket parts. I ordered a couple other wheel sets from Pegasus to see which would look better with on the car. However, the rim/rubber combination was so low profile I don't see how they would suit any 1/24 model... except maybe on those low rider bouncy cars.
Andrew McD Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 I realize this thread is a couple years old but can you provide a link to the youtube video that you referenced for the modifications to fit the larger tires? I'm just starting this build and what I have envisioned will include some larger lower profile tires than the originals. If my effort comes anywhere near looking as clean as yours I'll be ecstatic! 1
70 Sting Posted August 9, 2023 Author Posted August 9, 2023 Hi Andrew, unfortunately I no longer have the video. However, I can tell you that the front wheels are the easiest to install. All you have to do is shave down the wheel hubs (where they attach to the rotor/spindle). This will allow them to slide inward. Just make sure you have enough material left on the wheel hubs to attach them to the spindle. If not, you could always mount them flush against the rotors. As for the rear, the axel needs to be shortened. To do this, cut a small section from each side between the differential and the drums. Gonna have to do a little measuring or just remove tiny sections and test the fit. This will allow your wider wheels to fit into the wheel wells. After completing the above step, the leaf springs will no longer attach in their intended locations. Just relocate them in a similar fashion as in photo #12. Hope this is clear enough. Good Luck!
Andrew McD Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I've just started the project.....and now to find an appropriate set of wheels........ 1
Jonathan Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 What a beautiful build - I really like the carpet, it makes the car look real. 1
Slotto Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Most excellent build! Great wheel choice. Love the colors 1

I consider carpeting a ‘plus’ going forward for convertibles. Not entirely convinced it’s necessary in closed cabin vehicles where it can barely be seen. :^)

I can't believe how much the hobby has changed or more accurately, how little I knew/know. Back then it was the model and a tube of Testors glue. I can relate to that! Your 58 Corvette is really nice. I like the color, and the underneath is very neat too. 1
Smitty Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Well Harry, it certainly looks like you’re ‘back in the saddle’ with your model building. You’ve done a beautiful job on this vette. Under the hood looks especially well done.

mustang1989 Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Totally missed this one bud. Amazing color and fantastic looking car. As usual, your photography is amazing in itself as it really brings out the very best in your already good builds. 1
