Oldmopars Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 (edited) I got into 1/8th scale Monogram kits a while back and I now have several. I picked up this partly build/glue bomb 1965 Vette a while back and knew it was missing a bunch of parts. Most people that build this kit, do it as a full restored/new car. I decided that I do not want to go that direction. I am going to build this car as a project car. A car that maybe was a barn find or was mildly customized in the 70's-80's. It will not be all stock, the engine will not be fuel injected and the wheels will not be from this kit. The body will be in primer and some paint. I plan to remove parts that would normally be removed durin a restoration. Some parts I have already started on. The engine for this kit is really special. I got it from a member here that 3D modeled it, printed and cast it. The engine has all the same interrnal parts as the rel thing. It has a rotating crank, pistons, camshaft, lifter, rockers and more. The carburator alone was 22 parts with working linkage. As for non-stock parts, the transmission is a stock 350 with a B&M pan and a stall converter. The carb is a holley, Camero air cleaner with K&N filter. Edited July 19, 2021 by Oldmopars
FLHCAHZ Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Wow.. I'll be following this! What piston rings and gaskets are you going to use (haha)
Zippi Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 1/8 scale....that's a big boy you got there. Looks great so far. I'll be watching this one.
roadkill Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Howy cwap on a cwacker, this is going to be an awesome build, the parts and detail you've shown so far are off the charts, absolutely can't wait to see more. I really like the direction your taking this, a bit different to the norm, which is way cool, I took my part kit glue bomb in a totally different direction also, after a couple of false starts. My humble effort is back a few pages if you haven't seen it, I'd be honoured if you could take a quick look and tell me wot ya think. Michael Pederick, ( roadkill ) from Perth, Western Australia.
Oldmopars Posted July 31, 2021 Author Posted July 31, 2021 I got some work done on the engine. I still have to add the rockers to the other side, add the exhaust and all the accessories and wires. I also did some work on the body. I only had half of the tail lights, so I used 1/2in tube and made the hole that they would sit in. I will hang some wire with a socket on it in final assembly. BTW, I can spin the crank and all the pistons move up and down in the bores. And, the 134 on the oil filter is the correct part number.
Sam I Am Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Simply un-be-liev-able! I want one of those engines, but my firstborn is out on his own, and I just can't spare an arm or a leg.

Well, I will not give the exact price or who I got it from without his permission, but the cost was very low. Less than I spent on gas the last time I filled up my Suburban. (It does have a big tank) I wish he was making more of them, I would buy several.

I guess it'll never be eligible for Bloomington Gold certification. Ah well, it'll still make a great driver. Looking good!
Oldmopars Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 Thank you. I’m finding that I need to work on this in spurts. I took a small break for a little truck for my wife, and as I cleaned my model stash I found a kit I need to build or chuck. It no longer fits in the box and so it screws up the stack. it may be a week or 2 before I get back to it.
FLHCAHZ Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Looks great so far. Looking forward to your updates when u get back to it
Oldmopars Posted August 15, 2021 Author Posted August 15, 2021 I finished another quick prject, so this is back on the bench. I want to do the best job I can on this, so it will be an on/off project for a while. I cut the frame apart and the fuel tank was basicly not there, just a vauge representation of it. So, I needed to build one. I got some foam board just like Renshape and carved out the tank. I cut a slit around the middle and added plastic sheet for te tank seam. This will sit in the frame on a new cross member with real straps. I am also adding the fuel sender/pick up tube and wiring. In the first pictures it is in progress. Last pictures are mostly done, it will get the sender added and some weathering.
