ranma Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Before I go any further . Yes this is the Fourth Transtar 4070 A's from the AMT copy. I shortened the frame First cuts of the frame was just behind the rear fuel tank mounts, and the second cuts were in front of the first set of drive wheel's. I decided to use the front chrome wheel's that came in the kit, and added the Chrome rear set from a Transtar 4300 kit. Other items from the 4300 kit are: CB and CB antenna's , flap guard at the front of the drive wheels. The paint is Krylon shortcuts yellow, Krylon short cuts red (engine), and Krylon black... Interior Paint is Testors Model masters spray Tan color 4
ranma Posted August 7, 2021 Author Posted August 7, 2021 Passenger headlight was fixed, I didn't notice that it came loose till I posted the photo's.
vincen47 Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Nice work on this one, just like the others. I like the look of the shortened frame.
Jim B Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Nice job, Rick. I think the shorter frame looks much better.
ranma Posted August 7, 2021 Author Posted August 7, 2021 Just now, Jim B said: I think the shorter frame looks much better ThankYou! I wished I would have been smart and done the same to the other three! For some reason the out of the box frame looks way to long to my eyes. The frame on this copy looks more like I think what the kit should have been done as.

I agree with you about the look of the frame. Wasn't that the point of COEs anyway? Shortest possible tractor for the most cargo capacity based on the length laws? I know long frames might ride better, but they just don't look right (to me anyway).
trick my mixer Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 I must say that is one sharp looking cabover ...especially the paint job and with the wheels turned.
Rockford Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 You're right about the shorter frame, does look better. Good looking build, even with one contact lens hanging out!
GLMFAA1 Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Nice job on the rig. One question, I see holes in the A pillar that might be for wind deflectors. Are they in the kit? greg

Not sure if they were deflectors or Cab grab bars to help ease the use of just using the chrome ones on the front. I did add those after the photo's were posted though. Edited August 9, 2021 by ranma

After seeing that I fixed that headlight. As I stated before I should have shorten the frame on the Other three 4070 A's that I built.

BTW 1973 was actually the last year for the Transtar 4070 A. The Transtar II replaced it for 1974 until the 1980's when International brought out the 9600 (9670 Ect) series of cab overs.
doorsovdoon Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 That is absolutely gorgeous, very clean, and I love the colours you used!
ranma Posted August 19, 2021 Author Posted August 19, 2021 I want to thank all those who took the time to post a kind comment. Thanks again!
kilrathy10 Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Another beautiful rig for your fleet... Very nice work.. I love the shortened frame... Too cool...

Makes me wish I would have shortened the frame on the Orange w/white, and the White w/blue copies. I firmly think that the truck looks better with the fame shortened. In all I have three of the Original Ertl issued 4070 A's , and Four of the AMT issued 4070 a's ..

I rather use Krylon short cut's paints, and even though they don't have as many colors that Testor's has Krylon seems to be better quality wise. Krylon short cuts also seems to play well with most other paints. Such as Dupli color, and Testor's . Not to mention it's cheaper than a can of Testor's spray paint's , and I have not had a bad can from Krylon like I have had from Testors!

I've tried Krylon and can't get on with it. It's a good paint but it seems to be a very fussy paint that's picky about the environment you're working in. I use a lot of Hycote double acrylic and Halfords motor factors paints, they too work well with each other.

They are the same size as Testor's spray cans. Funny how certain paints will work for one person but not another isn't it.
