VW Dave Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Here's a shot of my front yard back on July 4th: And here is the same place on December 12th, after an overnight storm that coated everything in 1/2" of ice: The tree was disassembled this morning by my brothers and I, but I did this last night to show that my sense of humor was still intact: No cars, mailboxes or lap posts were hurt in the making of this storm....the only injury was to the tree.
george 53 Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 You needed your Brothers ta help you move a BRANCH? Geeze Dave, why dincha just hook up that lil dunebuggy an just drag it to the dump? I gotta admit though, It does look neet all lit up like that!!!
Harry P. Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Looking at the angle of that slanted trunk in your summer shot, it was a disaster just waiting to happen...
Nick F40 Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Ahhhh jeez, it smashed the Manx, aww man! I actually looks kind of cool, but I imagine....must have been fun, with the lights even...they weren't blinking right?
mikemodeler Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Looks like you will less leaves to rake next Fall ! Sorry that happened but like you said, only the tree was injured and luckily family was nearby to help clear the fallen tree. I had heard where some parts of New England will be without power for another week due to the severity of the ice storm. Hopefully some warmer weather will move in and thaw everything out and help the electric crews get the job done. Mike
locoengr Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 I hear ya man! We did not get the ice but we are suppose to have 14" of new snow before it quits snowing tonight. We have had very high winds all day, gusts up to 50 mph. We have a drift across the front of the garage door..... 6' high and 4' wide. Lovely?@$*%&@^^^^!! Actual temps are below zero and down to -25* by Tuesday morning, without the wind chill. Double lovely&@^##*!()#$Q)$*&!!! It started Sat night and the wind is suppose to go down by Mon am.....but all the roads are closed and probably be lucky to have 'em open by noon. But you know, it could be worse. My family is all healthy. Our neighbor and her mother both have cancer. Please pray for them! Happy Holidays everyone!!! Bruce in Fargo
Peter Lombardo Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Ah, it's a winter wonderland!!!! I hate the snow.....its time to be moving south.
Guest promodmerc Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 It was crazy in Kansas City today. I was out around 9:30 this morning & it was 60*. At 11:00 am it was 38*. By 4:30pm it was down to 20*. Around 6:00 it started sleeting. Right now (11:00pm) it's 10* with -15* wind chill. Yep it's winter
Rob Hall Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 It's been a unusually cold, snowy winter so far (late fall, actually) back home in Denver..glad I'm in Phoenix currently.
Jairus Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Winter is here too! No broken trees yet... but snow on the ground before Christmas is a rarity to be sure!
Ken Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 It was crazy in Kansas City today. I was out around 9:30 this morning & it was 60*. At 11:00 am it was 38*. By 4:30pm it was down to 20*. I got to stand outside at 10:30PM tonight to do a live shot on a fire that happened at about 7 PM. Literally, we jumped out of the truck, turned on the camera, did our minute and a half of TV and jumped right back in the truck! BBBBRRRRRR!!! it was cold!
BigGary Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Oh please, VW DAVE! Please tell me you put the Manx away before the storm, and tree, hit the ground. I was heavily involved in VW's for 10 years. Repairs, VW club president, VW drag racing, etc. I've got a soft spot for the old Beetle. Gary
James Flowers Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 I would have cut that tree long before it fell. Your lucky it lasted as long as it did. Glad you had no damage. Yes winter does suck big time.
CAL Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 It's been a unusually cold, snowy winter so far (late fall, actually) back home in Denver..glad I'm in Phoenix currently. It's jacked up here in denver. -15 everything frozen been thawing pips since 6 AM and only have partially restored the water flow.
Doughnut Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Right there with you Cal. It's a balmy -4 here in Minnesota with a wind chill of -40. At least the cold and snow gives us a good excuse to stay inside and build. We have the four seasons here in Minnesota: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Building Season!
MrObsessive Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I'm not a fan of snow either! Yeah it looks all nice and cutesy when you're on the inside, but having to drive in it or deal with simple neighbors when you have to shovel it is another matter! The last house I lived in could be a challenge when it came to snow because of where it was. I lived on a "private" road, meaning that when it snowed, the Borough would not plow our road! We literally had to dig ourselves out if it got really bad. There were three other houses on that road, so we all had to do the work of the borough Here's a pic of one winter in the last place........this was taken about 4 years ago. This isn't too bad compared to other times............. The Mitsubishi's long gone now------one neat thing about that car was with those skinny tires, it could plow through almost anything!
Rob Hall Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 It's jacked up here in denver. -15 everything frozen been thawing pips since 6 AM and only have partially restored the water flow. That's amazing... in 11 winters in Colorado, I don't think I've ever seen it that cold in December. Coldest I remember was a -19 in early February 2007 when i was living in Highlands Ranch. It's gray and rainy here in Phoenix this week, highs in the upper 50s, lows in the 40s.
Harry P. Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Chicago weather: Yesterday in the 50s, rained all day. April weather. Today: 5 degrees at 8AM... maybe got to 10. Tonight's low, 2.
buba39 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 i hate to tell yall but our snow is all most gone here in ny mid 40s
Kyle Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 LOL you guys are lucky. Here in Winnipeg it's -32 Celcius (~-26F) or -45C (-49F) with the windchill. That's cold for us in December.
Jantrix Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 (edited) Winter sure does suck. Yesterday I actually had to wear a long sleeve shirt. Edited December 16, 2008 by Jantrix
VW Dave Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 Oh please, VW DAVE! Please tell me you put the Manx away before the storm, and tree, hit the ground. Not to worry, Gary; the Manx seldom stays out past Thanksgiving, and this year he was pretty much away by Halloween. He gets tucked in the corner up on stands until spring has sprung: A couple of neighbors and I were slated to meet with the tree service this week to see about work we all wanted done(hoping for a 'group discount'). We wanted to wait until all the leaves had gone and the weather was cooler...looks like we waited a little too long, I guess. Today's weather? About 45-50 degress and a light rain; tomorrow might hit 60. Sometimes NY weather is a real rollercoaster ride.
Gregg Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 It was freezing here last night! Got down to 70! I hate winter!!!!!!
VW Dave Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 I'll admit that winter here is no picnic....but I wouldn't trade a summer or fall in the northeast for anywhere else.
