Rattlecan Dan Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Some beautiful precision work going on there. Any update?
absmiami Posted January 30, 2024 Author Posted January 30, 2024 update for Mr Can ... Carroll won't let me leave the shop - he's got me race prepping 2287 for Sebring - 18 hr days for slaves wages - but at least its glamorous work !!
absmiami Posted September 22, 2024 Author Posted September 22, 2024 Ok. Back fr a long slumber - the body is still Barbie pink - but not for long - trying the Tamiya flexible tape to mask the white half border over the nose - stuff bends really well - using Tamiya white and Italian red - 0010 is painted medium bright red - when Monterey featured the Barchettas years ago there was - naturally - some group shots - and you can tell that this car has a lighter shade of red paint than its more famous Lemans sister …
Gramps46 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Really glad to see this build alive again.

MarkJ Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Great job on the paint. I need to remember that tip about pink primer. I have a red build in my future.
absmiami Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 This was the first time that i had used pink for primer - but Tamiya has offered it for years - so they got the memo - from kit builders that built their F1 kits - and some builders on this forum have used it - makes the red pop … still need a little more paint on the fenders - and got to paint the door … by the way - the primer was rattle can and the color was air brushed … 1
Pierre Rivard Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Yup, pink primer really helps bring out the red. I tried it on my last red car and it makes painting red easier. Nice to see this build on the bench again.
absmiami Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 and nice fender louver job on that Batmobile ...
Straightliner59 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Beautiful! "Well worn leather, hot metal and noise..."
Bugatti Fan Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 This model is really taking shape well Andrew.r That old Barchetta is a lovely looking classic with lots of character.
absmiami Posted September 27, 2024 Author Posted September 27, 2024 The hard fuel line needs to be installed before the engine goes in - its made of .050 nikel silver tube in sleeves that are soldered up fr nick silver rod and tube - 1
absmiami Posted September 27, 2024 Author Posted September 27, 2024 The line is assembled loosely and placed into the carb fittings - I’ll glue it once its got adequate alignment … 1
absmiami Posted September 27, 2024 Author Posted September 27, 2024 It will just poke out next to the base of the air box …. 2
Pierre Rivard Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 Looks very good. How did you make the reinforced flexible fuel hose?
absmiami Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 PR - the fuel line was made by winding steel wire .009? around a random length of .015 brass rod and then slipping the wire over some yellow plug wire - think I’m using.011 craft wire here … 1 1
absmiami Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 But the fuel line does interfere with brace that runs across the front of the eng bay …. So i had to bend the line down and under - and no - this is net spec -
absmiami Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 Once the fuel line is finished i dry fit the radiator and began to install the oil lines … 2
absmiami Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 And before further gluing I’m pondering the exhaust pipes - these are white metal kit parts - they are correct for the early Colombo engine - but i can’t attach them once the engine is glued into the eng bay - if i epoxy them to the heads before i install the engine this is what happens …. So …
absmiami Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 I needed a little inspiration here …. this was the final play of the Miami - Va Tech football game fri nite - a pile of four players in the end zone trying to grab the football - thats what the Barchetta eng bay has turned into …
absmiami Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 I sawed off the final length of the exhausts on left and right - applied some epoxy to the eng mounts - and jammed the darn thing into the engine compartment once and for all … 3
absmiami Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 Kids - don’t try this at home … 1
