Rbray47 Posted November 2, 2021 Posted November 2, 2021 Just bought this and opened it. Its actually my 3rd Pontiac of this era. The first one was a factory stock 92 GTP, and this same 90 model turned pro street. I think I want to build this one stock. Other kit wheels shown for mock up purposes. I've always loved these cars for some reason. Never owned a 1:1 though. Never found the right deal. Probably paint it Testors GM dark cherry.
Zippi Posted November 2, 2021 Posted November 2, 2021 That's going to be a nice project. The Pontiac Grand Prix was a popular little car. Those mock up wheels and tires look pretty kewl.

The 3.1 V6 was a good engine, even with the randomly bad plenum gaskets. 1
Rbray47 Posted November 5, 2021 Author Posted November 5, 2021 Some progress here and there after work. Engine is just about done. Painted with Tamiya aluminum, semigloss and flat black, Testors leather, with Tamiya panel line accent to give it some depth and used look.
doorsovdoon Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Nice engine detailing. Nice looking car. I like the grille inserts in the bumper, a nod and a tip of the hat to the earlier 70's Pontiacs.
Olskoolrodder Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Off to a great start, engine weathering looks perfect
Rbray47 Posted November 9, 2021 Author Posted November 9, 2021 Well, its red, and cleared. More to come (if I don't get called in to work tomorrow)
slusher Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 These was really nice cars and very reliable. So you cleared the red plastic?

Rbray47 Posted November 9, 2021 Author Posted November 9, 2021 Last update before I have time to work on it again. The engine is finished and installed. The chassis is done, however it is warped. I'm hoping that final assembly will straighten everything out. I had planned to build this more or less stock, but I couldn't resist changing out the air filter.
Rbray47 Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 A little more progress. I started painting interior bits krylon khaki. Also painted the trim, which isn't easy.
mustang1989 Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 Absolutely LOVE these cars. I cut my teeth on these cars in my early years in GM dealerships as a service technician. Great motor and had lots of power for its day but the Achilles heel of it were the leaky intake gaskets, water pump failures and oil pump drive o ring leaks. Great progress on this so far and really like the engine detail.
Smoke Wagon Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 It’s nice to see a build of a good kit that doesn’t get much attention, especially when it’s getting built as well as this. Great work so far. Painting trim like that can be a pain but it’s more than worth it.
RomanII Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 Have fun with the front and rear windows. After struggling to install them from inside like the vast majority of older kits, I looked at the instruction sheet to learn that they were designed for flush fit from the outside. Oopsie. Painting a narrow black strip around the perimeter of the glass is required to hide the glue to surface. You're doing a great job so far. I look forward to seeing pics of the completed car. 1

I'll be remember that when I build up my GTP. Thanks for the tip/ reminder Dave.
