afx Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 (edited) Looking for a complete hood or a tear drop to install on a '66 Mustang hood. The AMT AWB Mustang has nice one but unfortunately it has a big cut out in the tear drop Competition Resin offers a hood but I think the tear drop is a little too tall Same with Lex's Scale Modeling - tear drop is a bit over done Revell T-Bolt is the wrong shape Yes I know I am being particular! OldTrucker Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The one you want is in the AMT 66 Ford Galaxie XL kit. 1
afx Posted December 23, 2021 Author Posted December 23, 2021 (edited) Yes that does look promising - photo from the internet. Do all releases of the '66 Galxie include the tear drop hood? Edited December 23, 2021 by afx 1
Snake45 Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 When I needed one for my '66 AWB Mustang, I vacformed the hood from a '66 Galaxie, cut out the part that's missing on the Mustang hood, and molded it in. It turned out pretty well. 2
afx Posted December 23, 2021 Author Posted December 23, 2021 (edited) Nice work - unfortunately I don't have a vacuum former or a '66 Galaxie hood. Edited December 23, 2021 by afx
Snake45 Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I might have done 2 or 3 of them. Might still have a spare. Lemme look around a little and if I can find one, I'll post. Oh, I think the AMT '68 Shelby has the teardrop hood, too. Do you have one of those in your extensive Ford stash?
Mark Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The '68 Shelby HAD a clear teardrop hood. It, along with the side glass, has been MIA since the mid-Seventies however. Most common, most easily found teardrop would be the '66 Galaxie piece.
David Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Competition Resins has a tear drop hood scoop. https://ecsvr.com/cpr/shopexd.asp?id=303
Bills72sj Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 I got mine, I think, from Ed at Drag City casting. The two oval holes are recessed and closed but I opened mine up.

I have a '68 Shelby in the stash but not a version with the teardrop hood.

RancheroSteve Posted December 25, 2021 Posted December 25, 2021 I found this teardrop in my parts box - pretty sure it came from the Galaxie kit. It's yours if it'll work for you. 1
