2009 Projects

Recommended Posts

With 2009 approaching I thought it might be fun to find out if you have any planned projects for the new year.

I plan to build a couple detailed WRC cars, a Honda Accord & NSX race team, plus a couple dirt cars and a very unique salt flat car.

So what do you have planned?

Well, lets see..........

Finish up the languishing '55 Ford.

Just started the old '64 Cougar II from Lindberg-------will post pics later.

Might start an old Triumph GT6 that I've had for years after the Cougar. I found out through the grapevine that kit's being reissued, so I won't feel guilty about starting an original kit.

And for something new, I may build the '06 Viper roadster that keeps calling me to build it lately. <_<

Since we moved to Illinois from Seattle, I haven't finished a single kit, but have several in the started category. A variety of things contributed to lack of progress, but impediments are finally diminshing (unless something at work sparks up again as it did this year).

First finish what I didn't get done this year:

  • Tamiya Ferrari 360 Modena Spider slightly tuned
  • Fujimi Enthusiast Ferrari Dino 246 GTS (the orignal release)
  • Fujimi BMW Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works edition with custom wheels
  • Revell 56 Chevy Del Ray as a street machine
  • Revell 32 Ford Sedan

Then start on (not in any specific order):

    • Revell Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, slightly tuned
    • Revell Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, kitbashed with the Fujimi kit, doors, hood and trunk opening
    • Revell 49 Mercury
    • AMT 62 Impala SS Convertible

But, plans can always change. And, if if the housing market starts to ease up, we may be looking to speed our departure from Illinois and get back to God's country (assuming the unusual snow back there melts <_< )

I've decided that 2009 will be the year of the resin builds.

Like many of us, I have a lot of resin bodies and kits that just haven't gotten built, so I'm planning on these.

'32 Sedan Delivery from Reps & Mins (already started)

'41 chopped Chevy from RMR

'41 Chevy Panel Truck from RMR

'49 Cadillac custom from The Modelhaus

'42 Ford street rod, converted from a '48 coupe from Perry's resin.

'36 Ford Sedan Delivery from Flintstone.

I have several other resin kits,,,,,,let's just see how far I get.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

It is close to impossible for me to accurately predict my future builds as I tend to just stumble on to a project. I will see a picture of a real build that sparks an idea on a kit that I have on the shelf, or a trip to the local hobby shop will spark something else.

So going forward into 2009, the first 4 projects are, 1. 62 Ford Thunderbird custom coupe based on the AMT convertible kit. 2. 1960 Pontiac Bonneville custom coupe based on the Trumpeter convertible kit. 3. a radical Art Deco rebuild of the Lindberg 37 Cord convertible (a very “rough†kit, to be polite) and 4. a 34 Ford Roadster based on the AMT coupe kit with a Prowler “flair†using the headlights, dash, windshield and top and maybe the engine, I haven’t decided on that yet…after that…maybe a Dodge Ram Pick Up with a retractable top…who knows.

Also, Happy New Year...I for one was very happy to see 2008 in my rear view mirror this morning...last year was the worst for business that I have seen in 50 years...it has to get better.

th_DSCF0507-web.jpg th_DSCF0825-web.jpg th_DSCF1589-web.jpg th_DSCF1582-web.jpg

Then I want to get a rat built in time for NNL West. Here’s a sketch:

(click picture for larger image)

th_TubeRat8copy.jpg

I’ve also got three projects in early stages that I’d like to get done:

’29 Ford Dry Lakes Roadster with tubular frame.

’39 Ford Tudor Sedan full custom (AMT body on Revell chassis, chopped and sectioned, etc.)

’32 Sedan Highboy, chopped on z’d frame.

In the pure concept stage (kits acquired but no plastic cut):

’32 Ford Highboy Roadster, 2009 Rodder’s Journal style in gloss black

’29 Ford Roadster, early 50’s drag car.

’49 Mercury Full custom, with fade away fenders and re-chop of the Revell body.

AMT ’37 Chevy Gasser on Revell Willy’s chassis.

Long wheelbase FED, single engine based on Two Much rails.

Geez!! Like everybody else, my list is wayyyy too long. Like gasman said, if I get 6 of these done I’ll be thrilled.
