carsntrucks4you Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Got today a new Anycubic Photon Mono M7Pro. Printing time is only half of time of my old Mono X. In 5 h I have the first result. The same file on a Mono x take 10h47. 1

Lownslow Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Got tired of the AMT junk engine bays and made a custom universal one with smoothed walls so it showcases the engine more and looks better body matched 4
Lownslow Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Pushed my cad skills a little further and designed my second split face wheel, most of my wheels are already drawn in assembly format, This time i chose not to "glue" them give them some assembly space and this was the result. 1
rattle can man Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Can anyone recommend a good source for basic 3d printing info for someone not familiar with the technology (from CAD to slicers tom hardware)? If Shapeways doesn't come back in some form, I am tempted to start printing.

Chris Bell is very good at teaching folks who are new at this the ins and outs of printing. It's a sub site----he has various plans for whatever folks need, but IMO, it's worth the time to check out. Hope this helps! 4
atomicholiday Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 I’ll second that. I’ve learned a lot from Chris. He’s a really good teacher. 1

catpack68 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Is there anyone on the fourm that does 3D printing for that don’t have access to one or do not have a 3D printer?

Printers are insanely cheap theres really no excuse to have one, ive gotten printer cheaper than my dremel which do great work. The printer i used to print this was 75$ used 1

I don't have a 3D printer because I don't need another hobby. If I went through the learning curve to print parts for my builds, the media would go bad between my usage! Right now I'm lucky to be building one or two models a year. 1
atomicholiday Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Question for the experts- how do you guys set your contact points on your supports? I’m trying to reduce the amount of scarring I’m getting.
V8tiger Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I've purchased stl files and printed a lot of parts small parts, wheels and tires. After a lot of trial and errors I'm finally been sucessful. My very simple question is about the process. I've subscribed to Polycam and scanned a 33 Willys body, I tried to export it as an stl file into Lychee... doesn't work... Is there a step in between and before Lychee slicer that I'm missing? Here's a photo of, except for the body which is an altered indy car body of Art Arfons Green Monster.. of course it's not exact..but had a lot of fun doing it. I even downloaded the double slicks!

Realize tho that as you reduce the tip diameter you reduce the contact area which can cause the print to fail. I only reduce the tip size on smaller areas of the print, not to reduce scarring.

I’m using Chitubox. Light supports, 0.30 tip diameter with 0.10 penetration. None selected for tip shape. I don’t get many failures, and the supports come off easy, but they leave fairly large raised marks, larger than the contact area. Almost like a pimple, if that makes sense. I’m new to this, so it might be perfectly normal. But I’d like to optimize the contact points as much as possible if I can.

Yeah, its pretty normal though there may be some remedies I don't know about. I try to position my model to have the supports at the least likely area to matter if it has marks while keeping islands to a minimum. 1
stitchdup Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 you can reduce the scarring a little if you hold the piece in fairly hot water while you remove the supports 2

stavanzer Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 He is talking about 3D printing, as I recognize some of the terminology. After that, I'm stumped.

Scans also aren't typically ready to just scan and print, you have to clean the up a bit in Blender or something.
V8tiger Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 That's what I'm asking....I subscribed to Polycam and scanned a 33 Willys body. Got the scan. Then I tried to export it as an STL file into my slicer Lychee and it doesn't work. So that my missing step.. I have to go into program such as Blender, clean it up before I can import it to my slicer.... then to my printer. Thank you so much for the info. I appreciate it.
