TransAmMike Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Anyone know about the Mig Ammo Chrome sheets. Link below https://www.migjimenez.com/en/new-releases/7327-chrome-sheets-280x195-mm--8432074082484.html
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Pity that site requires you to accept their cookies if you want to look at it. I'll pass. If I go to a sales site, I'm a possible buyer. They don't need to SHOVE some other damm intrusive marketing/tracking garbage down my throat too. 3 1 2
TransAmMike Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 Whoa, chill man...I just used that link to show the product. Sorry 1

Looks like a very interesting product, but there are other sites that don't require an "accept cookies" affirmation to view the stuff. https://www.megahobby.com/products/chrome-sheets-5-ammo-by-mig-jimenez.html Edited February 15, 2022 by Ace-Garageguy 1
SfanGoch Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Five 7" x 11" sheets for about nine bucks sounds like a bargain considering the relatively high prices of AMMO products in general. I'm wary as to the quality when compared to BMF. Looking at images of the sheets, they seem to have a pebbly finish whereas BMF is smooth. No reviews yet because it's a new product.

I happen to like cookies, but my doctor has advised against me consuming them. 3
iamsuperdan Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I think for $10 or whatever, those would definitely be worth trying. I've looked at the Hasegawa Mirror Finish film, and it looks good but is pricey.

Not sure but I think that "pebbly finish" is just printed on the packaging and is not on the sheets.

Plowboy Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I'd rather not have to buy five sheets of it to try it out. But, I may give it a try when I run out of BMF. By that time, there may be some reviews on it.

Michael jones Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I'm guessing this is chrome vinyl. I have some at home that looks something like this.
Dpate Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I seen these too and was wondering if anyone has tried them lol. I just spent about $800 at plazajapan so I can 't afford to test them right now.

Erik Smith Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Quick and dirty review. MIG is more chrome but is not - or doesn’t appear to be - aluminum. Feels like a vinyl. I could be wrong. See photos. This is an old sheet of BMF New Improved Chrome vs MIg Chrome sheet. The MIG will work for relative flat, simple shapes. It does not conform to fine detail like BMF. I used my usual techniques - fat thumb and wet toothpick - but I couldn’t really get it to work on the Vette emblem. Works ok on window trim. The BMF - hard to see in photos - actually polishes with just a dry QTip to almost same level as MIG chrome. Conclusion: MIG works ok - use on flat simple shapes. BMF still more useful for fine detail and masking. Definitely better at pressing into scripts and shaping around curves. Photos: 2 1
TransAmMike Posted February 19, 2022 Author Posted February 19, 2022 Thanks for the review Erik. It will continue to be BMF for me.
Bainford Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Yes, Thanks for that. Very informative. Clearly the MIG has shortcomings compared to BMF, but I think it has its place. How thick is it relative to the BMF, and how well does it stick?

I don’t have any way of measuring actual thickness - but it’s slightly thicker than BMF to my sensations. Seems to stick about the same as BMF. I tried it in some large flat pieces and it works well on things like that - especially versus an old BMF sheet that tends to have those old glue wrinkles.

Yeah, unless you’re covering a large flat area, BMF is still the king. It does work well for flat panels and hides some surface flaws that BMF would pick out. Edited February 19, 2022 by Erik Smith

Ace-Garageguy Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Looks like the MIG might actually look better on some chrome window and side trim with enough practice. Looks like it might be just the ticket for doing some flat drag-car interior "tin" that was the subject of another thread.

It actually can probably represent an actual scale thickness trim in certain instances. Problem is its inability to conform to curves as in the bend of the corvette trim above. But, yes, I agree it has potential. I actually have some that is “aluminum” finish also, I will try a bit of it on some panels and post results. It’s relatively inexpensive to play around with.
