bonehead23 Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 I don't know why exactly, but I spent too much for this '62 Tempest kit, and then got a '66 Nova with the stock chassis, parts from the Mooneyes digger for the front axle, and the 421 from Revell. It all worked out nicely. Tamiya Mica Red provided the perfect shade I wanted, and the white is just masked primer and clearcoat.. Testor's Revving red is close, but darker, and the Tamiya paint has a golden glow in the sunlight. The blue '63 is a Model King issue AWB, just for comparison. Both were "holy grails" I finally snagged and built. 3
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 A 62 and a 63 together is the deal. Like these two monsters! 421 cubic inches is always the best.
M W Elky Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 I really like your old poncho’s sweet paint jobs, and good use of parts.
bisc63 Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Both beauties! Love those gold foil decals, especially on the red car. Well done.
tim boyd Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Way to go, Bone. Thanks for sharing your building talents and creativity with the Model Cars Forum members! Cheers....TIM
Zippi Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 I like the ole Gassers. All that Muscle sticking out of the business end looks mean. Great job on both.
Altered Ego Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I always love to see something different. The 62 is incredible and the 63 very nice as well. Great job.
W Humble Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 As a Tempest LeMans owner (member of POCI and 'Little Indians' clubs) how the heck did I miss these? Boy, love 'em! I will post my version of the 1961 Tempest 'Monte Carlo' (a name swiped from Cadillac, not Chevrolet, in 1961), a shortened Tempest ragtop soon. I bought the original AMT sedan kit in year of introduction (I got to drive them working around a Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealership the year I got my CDL) just to create the 'Monte', and last year (61 years later, count 'em) I finally finished it. Use a n AMT '62 banger with 4-71 GMC blower, etc. just like the original, too! PMD Alpine White with a pearl clear-coat, and I succumbed to putting Kelsey-Hayes 8-lug rims on it, meaning it went from scale 15 to 14-in. There is a bunch of photos online that purport to be this car, but I dunno'! It has a drop-top, and the original had two lo-o-ong headrests, like the Corvair Sebring SS (?), which came in a 3-1 kit, luckily. I also made my version of the Super Duty or "Powershift' 421 Tempest from 1963; used the ROYAL PONTIAC decals from the '62 Bonneville kit, over yellow. Well, it seemed 'very IN' back in '63! Later I got to write the Tempest history for SPECIAL INTEREST AUTOS Magazine (1978) and interviewed Bill Collins, Mickey Thompson, Mac McKellar, and all the PMD stars -- except, John DeLorean! Darn it! My LeMans is the Little Indians Club calendar car for August this year. Sorry, it's also for sale!
