bill-e-boy Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 I seem to remember reading that it was used as a test bed for one of the hot rod magazines so was always changing especially mechanical wise. The paint job was a about the only thing that did not change.
bill-e-boy Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 It most certainly was one of the most influential rods of the day too. It has influenced me with the choice of wheels for my own car 1
Mr. Metallic Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 The stance and wheel/tire package are great. Really surprised Fred Cady didn't offer the McMullen flames at some point. I know he did the AlaKart, and I think he did the California Kid too. With the upcoming Revell 32 roadster retool coming closer to the McMullen car, maybe someone like Slixx will step up with the correct flames? Just daydreaming I guess.

Thanks Greg - Yes I agree it is surprising Fred Cady did not make decals for the McMullen. He was such a fabulous decal maker. I have used many of his decals for racing cars and have a good collection for future projects including the California kid.
pack rat Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Beautiful build! The McMullen deuce has been on my to-do list for years...you've set the bar pretty high.

Speedpro Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 Very nice! Good choice for a '32 build and you knocked it out of the park! 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Very nice. Big smile-maker. As Dennis said, first thing any knowledgeable rodder would think of seeing this would be the McMullen car, so I believe you accomplished what you set out to do.

While you may not have been able to pull off the flames and pinstripes exactly the McMullen Roadster is still the first thing that comes to mind. Anyone who knows that iconic car will think the same. And, accurate or not it’s still a killer hot rod! ? Phil....what Dennis said. ' As for your flames, the 1/1 scale Roadster's flame job, though nicely laid out by Roth, always struck me as a little crude as a result of Tom's "rub through" red to yellow paint fades. So in some ways I could say your replica captures the idea of a flame job better than the real car! Very obvious you knew your subject and knew it well. Congrats on a great effort....TIM

Now that the model is completed and on the shelf I am beginning to see it in its own right more than a replica perhaps because of its own distinctive flames.

I did try to duplicate as many of its distinctive features as I could but fell short with the flames and pinstriping.
