This thread piqued my interest in trying a set of these - found a good set of 50 that had great reviews on Amazon for $10 shipped.  Excited to need a hole someplace that there isn’t one already!

LOL!  Fixed it.

But if you ever wondered if split point drill ever wanders . . . it doesn't. No need to wonder any longer. :)

Wanderful?

When I got mine I was drilling holes in sprue tree pieces left and right. It was fun.

I got some a while back and broke a couple just opening the container

Also got some 50x sets for back up

These work a treat in my Unimat 3 mini lathe where normal small drill bits don't

Pete, I reckon that we all have hardened skin on our thumbs and fingers!  If not from PC bits it's the Pin Vice!

Why?  It takes very little pressure to hold and twirl the 1/8" drill bit shaft between my fingers.  You don't want to put too much pressure on the bit, ans it is quite fragile. Actually hard calloused skin would make the hand-drilling more difficult.  My fingertips are quite soft.  I do use pin vise for the larger drill sizes, and the same applies - delicate handling is in order.

Pete, that was meant to be a tongue in cheek joke.

Oh well, it went way over my head.   I need to lighten up a bit and be less serious.  Maybe if you put a smiley in your post I would have caught on.

Wow!  Never thought an item like drill bits would garner so much attention!?  Drilled a bunch of #71 holes in some bass wood the other day with no problems.  Used a pin vise as I always do.  My fingers are too thick and old to just hold the bits by hand.

Been using CML Supply on line.   I use #77 and #78 for spark plugs and these seem to hold up better than others I have tried
