Revell '30 Model A Five Window Hot Rod reissue built both ways - Highboy and Channeled

The most recent additions to my collection of Model A Five Window Coupe hot rod models were both built from the 2021 reissue of the Revell '30 Model A Five Window Coupe hot rod kit. I built it both ways - Highboy and Channeled - straight from box with just paint detailing added.  While I still think this kit is among the finest hot rod model kits ever, there were a few issues that surfaced during the restoration of the damaged kit tool that, in my opinion, make the original issue kit from five years ago worth choosing if they are both sitting on the shelf at the same price, and also providing that you prefer the original kit's SBC (uugghh) over the way cooler Nailhead V8 in the reissue.

For those who are interested, there is a very detailed review of the reissued kit - along with a number of issues to look out for - posted at the following link (but I believe that you do need to be a subscriber to FineScale magazine to get past the firewall to view the images and text): https://finescale.com/product-info/kit-reviews/2022/02/workbench-review-revell-1-25-scale-30-ford-model-a-coupe-2n-1-plastic-model-kit-expanded

Anyway, here are some images of the completed models along with a few "in process" images.  Thanks for looking.  TIM

Another great pair mr boyd. Love the checkerboard firewall.

Thanks Anthony.  That checkerboard decal is in the kit.  Just took a little MicroSet/MicroSol and patience to get it to settle in very nicely.  In retrospect, probably should have painted the firewall white instead of blue, but oh well!   Best...TB

Great builds!  I’m about to start Revell’s ‘32 5 window… yours have provided inspiration. :^)

Harry....inspiring others to build models is one of my highest aspirations as a modeling "journalist" of sorts.  Please share your progress with us here if you want to....Best....TIM

That's a great look at both versions.  Both are nice looking Tim.  I'm about 3/4 of the way through my build.  I choose to build the Highboy.

Great job on both kits Tim

I have only recently got my hands on a sample so this and Zippi's built will give me some incentive to get one built - then I will need to fork out for some more but they are $80 NZ over here in the stores

Both are sweet! Oddball question, but how did you get the tranny and the seats to get that perfect gray patina? I've never been able to get that look down on my builds.

Thanks Emre.

I believe the tranny was simply Tamiya Metallic Grey brush paint, possibly with brushed overlay of gray or black wash as used by the military modelers.

The seats, I think, were probably Model Masters Aluminum or Stainless-Steel aerosol (sadly, no longer made by Testors), with an overcoat of Tamiya Flat Clear spray, and then a brushed light overlay of black Military Modeler wash.

Hope that helps
