1968 MPC PaddyWagon

Pretty much every old show rod I've pulled apart was an ordeal, this one was no different. It was almost beyond saving as all the bright parts were full of glue also. Being its one of the rarer show rods I soaked the entire model in Castrol super clean and in these pictures is what I have to work with. The chassis looks to be tough area. The body can be repaired and it will still be some sort of show rod, but its not going to be the PaddyWagon.

Sweet Mother of Styrene, that sure was a glue bomb for real. There are a lot of similar chassis out there that are similar and the Jag rear end can be sourced from a lot of places like the Buttera rods from Revell. That's going to be a lot of cleaning on the body work. Maybe duplicate the shapes with sheet styrene?

Looks like you've got it apart reasonably intact. Are details too obliterated?

Is that 1/20 scale?

If you can find one of the versions of the MPC "Outcast" kit, it has the same chassis.

As does the Fire Truck

But the chassis actually originated under the "Tognotti's T"

The Outcast and FireTruck kits shouldn't be too hard to find as they've been reissued in the not too distant past.

Thats good info to have and I have the Outcast covered . I ran into that before on the MPC mail truck, the complete chassis was found in the 1929 Woody/Pickup kit.

Bad glue marks cleaned up to leave just glue stains. I got the actual main chassis back together but it was so twisted from heavy glue it was not usable. I was able to find an old Outcast parts box frame with a piece missing up front where the front axle mounts but is still better than what I had. (thanks to Can-Con for the heads up) The front axle repair was straight forward and actually still steerable. Cut out a few Platistruct tuft patterned pieces for the rear inside to cover heavy glue areas.  The interior seating area glue spots, since its a show rod , I can use some "funny fur" for cover once its cleaned up. Next is primer and putty, then more sanding.

I have a glue bomb of this Paddy Wagon myself (and parts of a Tognotti T) I'll have to keep a close eye in this project for ideas as I don't have  many spare parts so I'll be looking for ideas.

That’s one good thing about old glue it can be sanded. It is so amazing how much knowledge is on this forum..

The chassis and interior areas were so heavy in glue ,some body and chassis rails were distorted and or melted. 

Scale is 1/25th

Body and chassis and inside are about as good as they will ever be. In this mock up the front is low, it will sit higher front and back once the chassis done.

That's actually the parts from Monogram's "Paddy Wagon", a Tom Daniel design kit, and it was done in 1/24, more or less as was Monogram's way. Besides the name, it has nothing in common with the 1/25 MPC Paddy Wagon being built here. The name causes confusion, as almost everyone knows the TD kit, but the MPC is rarely seen.

(Mock up)  I decided to make this a UPS themed show rod .When I first painted the body a pretty close shade of brown to the UPS color it just didnt say show rod , then add some flames in the mix and it it looked worse. I re-prepped the body and mixed in some brown metalflake paint and this is where its at now. The green flames break up the dark color but the may or may not be good so I have a back up. Long way to go on the chassis, interior and engine.
