Mattilacken Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 (edited) So in 1987 Chevy introduced the New C1500 for the 1988 model year. Which suits this years CBR well. I am born in October of 1987 manny cool cars are around for that year and I started an other one first but lost interest. Was peeking around on 911’s Monte Carlos, Camaros and others.. and did not get stuck on it. Then I turned my eye to what trucks where available and found out that these was built in 1987! perfect so a 454 Ss it is, even though they where a later model. My build will be a LSX454 SS with a C5R intake and some mods as modern reinforced transmission, dual fuel tanks. Side exit exhaust and more. a line up of some trucks.. Terry Jessee Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 (edited) I built the box art model for that kit. Had a resin pickup box from All-American Models on the Sportside chassis. Actually, mine was supposed to be a prototype display for trade shows, but they used it for the box art with some pretty heavy retouching--note the mirrors, interior, and wheels. Saltie Olds Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 That’s Awesome Lookin. I Really Like It. I’d like to get another one of the AMT stepside kits, the ‘90, and turn it into a custome 454SS.

I have seen this boxart many times and I like it allot! Great work there! I guess the hardest thing about these kits is to get the lights to look good. Was thinking of doing the mod I saw a fellow member doing but I won’t have the time ? but hey might be possible to do a 3D printed lights option only problem then would be the glass. 9 hours ago, Saltie Olds said: That’s Awesome Lookin. If I had some more founds at the moment I would have ordered I guess 10 kits from them.
Mattilacken Posted July 14, 2022 Author Posted July 14, 2022 Made some progress.. well not in plastic yet. But @Ghost_33 have made a STL of the files and will print it during next week. I could not imagine how to make a good looking headlight of the kit part.. so i went ahead and made a CAD file of clear lens headlights for the truck. Will se how the print turns out and how i will take care of the fine lines created by the printer so the chrome looks good. Here is the rendering of the modeled part. Also made some other pars while at it, always needed when doing custom builds and i made them so i could use a 0,5mm bras rod for securing them. I also have the nuts on the brackets so when puting the rod there it will look like its screwed ? The links are made to be glued together since i dont know the needed lengths ?
Mattilacken Posted July 14, 2022 Author Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) After some time with the sanding sticks this PB bumper, probably from a GTO or some thing, start to look like a roll pan. Not sure about the angle so I might go in to the PB again and search. Edited July 14, 2022 by Mattilacken
Mattilacken Posted July 17, 2022 Author Posted July 17, 2022 Was going through the PB again and found this front bumper from a 1966 Charger. After some minor mods it looks good on there. Much shorter than the other.
Mattilacken Posted July 18, 2022 Author Posted July 18, 2022 Some minor progress, the carbon work on the intake have started. Need to sleep but will finish it to morrow. 1
Mattilacken Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 (edited) Madde some progress.. i am full of plastic since grinding out that grill! And to not go to crazy I will probably just put a net behind it in stead of making the radiator support and all… or we will see if my add acts up on me ? And carbon looks ok to me! av405 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Grill looks nice! Can you walk me though how exactly you did it? And how much thickness was still left?
Mattilacken Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 23 hours ago, av405 said: Grill looks nice! Can you walk me though how exactly you did it? And how much thickness was still left? Thanks! I started with the mill bit on the dremel and took out most of the grill and headlights from behind but left the top edge intact. That made the grill to have its integrity and most of its righty left. When I knew I was close to the front surface I put the dremel on low speed with a sanding paper, and held the grill to the light. That way you easily se if you are even or if you can take out more. And when the grill “inserts” where super thin almost grinded lose I took a fresh 11blade and gently punched them out and when needed I cut. patience does it! You can see in the pics how thin it is. 2
Mattilacken Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 Have been testing some other wheels. Can I please have some inputs on what suits it. Which is best of the ones I have. And maybe some options that would work. initial thought: option 1: Option 2 hot rod: option 3: Option4, would be dark gray centrum: And please feel free to comment, and come with ideas or suggestions ? it’s much appreciated!
Steve H Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Anton! How are you my friend? I like wheel 3 or 4, 4 painted in a titanium colour would look fantastic. What colour will the body be? Excellent work on the grill, that takes LOTS of patience. Love the carbon fibre on the engine, those decals frustrate the heck out of me! I’ve watched videos and such, but I can never get them to conform to the compound curves. Great looking build sir. Cheers, Steve
Jordan White Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 (edited) I like your progress so far! Personally I think the initial ones (NASCAR style wheels) look the best, but that's because I'm more of a 15/16" wheel kind of guy! However with the route you're going with your build, I would say the last set suit the theme the best. Edited July 21, 2022 by Jordan White

I am also leaning agains the option 4 at the moment. I think the body will be Black, since all 454SS that I have seen IRL are black and they do look sinister in Black with the red and silver text. Only option would be a dark gray thats even darker than Tamiya Gun Metal. Thanks, it took some patience but it did not take that long when working carfully with the new model of Dremel, absolutley the best tool i bought in a while. Saved me hours of filing the normal way. Yes the engine will look good! It also took patience more than the grill and many coats of micro sol. And sudently it has formed a bit and when clamping the part with your fingers it sticks. :S

I can agree that with the motor i put in it the last fits the theme, my plan was to build a more old school build at the start

TNT Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Killer work. The cragar/ keystone style look best to me, and if you tinted the spokes and left the rims chrome i think that would look even better. The first ones reminds me of some steel rims i had on a chevy shoveit. More off road looking on a truck. 1

I have ordered Pegasus iroc rims and sleeves to see if they do the job ? yea NASCAR wheels are steel but black with yellow they still look cool I think. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! ?

Mattilacken Posted July 27, 2022 Author Posted July 27, 2022 (edited) Got an idea the other day if I could use the C5R wheels if I sleeved them.. and they sudently doesn’t look to bad. And I actualy prefere these before option 3 and 4 above. Option 5: Edited July 28, 2022 by Mattilacken
