Kenmojr Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 I am attempting to return to the car modeling hobby. The last car model I built was probably 25 years ago. I am in my late 60s and now retired for 4 years after working for 35 years as a computer programmer and system administrator (Windows server, Novell Netware & Suse Linux) servers. Since a lad my passion has always been cars, especially American muscle cars, traditional hot rods and cars of the 1930s to early 1970s. One Christmas day in the early 1960s I got a Monogram Black Widow model kit and AMT model of the XR6 hot rod which also included a Model T Ford. I would soon have our kitchen tabled littered with car model parts to Mom's chagrin as she tried to chase me away so she could set the supper table. I continued to build model cars into my early 20s as I attended university but lived at home. My second passion has always been hockey, being a fan of the St Louis Blues since 1968. I played hockey through out my youth and into my adulthood. I stopped playing recreational hockey at age 52. in 1983 I purchased a 1960 Corvette that was a used as a drag racer. With the assistance of my Dad, a talented backyard mechanic and my kid brother, who was employed as a mechanic until he retired a couple of years ago restored the Corvette back to some of it's glory. The Corvette is not original. When I purchased it the 283 was gone and replaced with a small journal 327, Muncie M21 4 speed tranny and a 12 bolt GM rearend with 4:11 gears. I replaced the generator with a GM Delco alternator, swapped out the stock intake and Carter AFB carb with Edlebrook carb and intake. Replaced the old Chevy distributor, points and condensor with a MSG HEI electronic distributor. The single line master cylinder was upgraded to a dual master cylinder. Front drum brakes upgraded to disc via ECI conversion kit purchased from the Old Car Centre in Langley, BC. I still own the Corvette and take it out for a summer cruise every weekend depending on weather and domestic commitments as I am now my 91 year old Dad's primary care giver. Love the car. It's a delight to drive around town. But would not take it on a run to Bangor, Maine. Car now runs BFG TAs and American Torque Thrusts. My other hobbies are digital photography (automotive and landscape/scenery). I also do digital illustrations and some 3D modeling / rendering. Look forward to learning from the existing members here. Cheers from Nova Scotia Kenmo 1
iamsuperdan Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Welcome from the other side of the Great White North! 1
mrm Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Welcome, Ken. Building models is just like riding a bike, you'll get right back into it. 1
Street Rod Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Welcome to the forum! Lots of good stuff here! 1
Bainford Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 Welcome to the forum Ken, from a fellow Bluenoser. Cheers. 1
AmericanMuscleFan Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 Welcome back to the hobby and to the forum Ken ! We share a number of things: I'm Canadian, a big fan of American muscle cars and I'm also, to some degree, the caregiver for my 91-year-old father. The beauty of this hobby is that you can make the same kind of modifications you made to your real Corvette at a lower cost. You can even go further and recreate the cars of your dreams without breaking the bank ! There is a great brotherhood on the forum and good advice or tips to be found there, we look forward to seeing your next project. 1
foghorn62 Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 Glad to have you join us Ken! Your story is a very familiar one, as many here have followed similar paths. I too started building and customizing model cars at a very young age, continued into my early thirties, took a break for about forty years to do life, and returned about five years ago after retirement from a long career in the oil and gas industry. Now, in my mid 60s, and living in northern Vermont, I divide what free time I’m allowed from serving as full time caregiver for my handicapped wife, between building model cars, and tinkering with my 41 GMC pickup, which occupies most of my garage. As Francis (who is an amazingly talented builder who inspires me with every one of his posts), and others have already stated, we look forward to having you join us! Regards, Tim Slesak 1

The green mountains are awesome. Burlington is a a great place. I even took the Lake Champlain ferry to from Burlington to Plattsburg, NY and the Shelburne Museum is one of the most fascinating places I've ever visited.
Kenmojr Posted August 15, 2022 Author Posted August 15, 2022 Thanks for all the warm wishes everyone.
