absmiami
SPORTSCARDIGEST.COM CSX2287: The first Daytona ..... In the meantime, Carroll Shelby acquired funding from Goodyear and was able to buy two chassis from AC, numbered CSX2286 and CSX2287. The chassis number CSX2287 was the first completed Daytona Coupé, also the first car completely built in the United States. Ken Miles soon tested the CSX2287, recording incredible results in Riverside. Thanks to Brock’s design, the aerodynamic Daytona was faster than the King Cobra by 3.5 seconds, a huge margin on a relatively short track. At first, Ken Miles was in disbelief about the 183 MPH top speed at the straight, but after opening the differential and counting the gears, everyone on the team was certain that they had built a winner.

The '64 Sebring race is 1 yr and 7 months short of it's 60th anniversary. These are the first photos taken with my phone. I plan to do a proper photo shot and an Under Glass post in the near future. I still have not heard the full story on why the Hall-Penske Team taped over the hood louvers and left them that way for the Road America race in September 1964 and Nassau December 1964. Maybe the original reason was to prevent rain getting into the engine compartment but the team must have found it advantageous for other reasons because Road America was a dry race. - ??? absmiami
2287 as it is today - much like the ‘65 team cars - including the team ‘65 Shelby blue - which is darker - it would be cool if 2287 were to receive a cosmetic restoration to its ‘64 Daytona or Sebring spec - but that would infuriate many in the vintage car community - so i guess a model will do …

Andrew your Cobra Daytona project has been so interesting to follow and it has turned out fantastic. Thanks for starting this endeavor. I really enjoyed being part of it.
