JollySipper Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Here's what I've been working on the past couple days! It's the latest release of this kit. I had different wheels in mind before, but when I saw how the factory wheels looked in the wide whites, I decided to go with them. Tires are from the Monogram '56 Thunderbird. Skirts are from the '49 Ford coupe. Plan is for a mild custom, of course! Hopefully I can get the stance like I want it, which would be a little lower in the rear........... This is as far along as I am, just getting this kit yesterday....... Thanks for lookin'....... 4
espo Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Look forward to this build. As I recall the front spindles on this has a lot of adjustment and lowering blocks for the rear leaf springs as easy enough to do.
bisc63 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 This will be fun. The stance looks pretty nice as is!
slusher Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 TJ looking forward to your build if this classic!
XYHARRY Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 (edited) Looking forward to seeing what you do with this kit TJ. I plan to give my 56 Victoria a rebuild one day. My cat knocked it off the shelf ?. That wheel & tyre combination looks good. Cheers, David. ?? Edited October 8, 2022 by XYHARRY Spell check
Zippi Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 Looking good so far. I like the stance where you have it but a little lower is going to look Great as well.
JollySipper Posted October 8, 2022 Author Posted October 8, 2022 Thanks for the replies and interest, fellas! I'm still working on the ride height. The rear is attached to the leafs, so I may have to cut it free to lower the rear some..........
JollySipper Posted October 8, 2022 Author Posted October 8, 2022 Here it is with the ride height that it's gonna have! Just how I wanted it, a slight speed boat stance......... 6
JollySipper Posted October 9, 2022 Author Posted October 9, 2022 Thank you, Carl! The rear is as low as it can go (the axle is up against the frame....), and the front is in the "stock" position......
JollySipper Posted October 11, 2022 Author Posted October 11, 2022 I've been working on these seats lately........ From the mold, they have a really rough texture on the backs. I wanted them smooth and shiny, like they were made of finished fiberglass or something. All I did was to prime and sand (mostly prime heavily...) until they were smooth. The color doesn't show that great, it's Dark Garnet from DupliColor. As soon as the clear dries I can mask the backs and paint the fronts white..... That's what I have for now, except that I've been cleaning up the body parts of flash and such. Not a lot of cleanup on the body, as old as this kit is..... 2
JollySipper Posted October 13, 2022 Author Posted October 13, 2022 I just brush painted the inside of the seats. I didn't want to risk ruining the paint on the outsides....... Also, I put some chrome strips on the fronts. I'll be putting 5 or 7 strips of foil down the roof (like was popular in the late '50s......... ) and I wanted to tie it in somehow with the interior. 5
JollySipper Posted October 13, 2022 Author Posted October 13, 2022 Thanks, Carl man! This second pic of them shows the color a little better........ 1
JollySipper Posted October 16, 2022 Author Posted October 16, 2022 Thanks, Fellas! Ideas flow the best when I'm working on a kustom..... it's my "niche".
espo Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Great looking interior treatment, especially the consol.
JollySipper Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 Thanks, David for the comment! Today was primer day, after a good bit of cleaning the body parts of flash and such. The primer didn't turn out as uniform as I would like, so this will get wet sanded with #2000 and some soapy water, then hopefully one more coat should even things out..... That's where I am today! I hope you guys enjoy looking in......
JollySipper Posted October 18, 2022 Author Posted October 18, 2022 I couldn't help but to do a quick mockup! Just wanted to see if I was on the right track as far as my vision...... 4
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Looking good. Really like the spaceship console.
JollySipper Posted October 18, 2022 Author Posted October 18, 2022 Thanks, Bill! Yea, it kinda looks like it's 'floating'......
