This is the AMT kit that I bought about a month ago at a Model Car Show for $15.  I've pulled all the parts from the box that will be painted the body color which will be Tamiya X-10 Gun Metal and cleared with Tamiya X-22 Clear.  I found a pic online that just looked really nice in green so I'm going to fashion mine after this one but in the Gun Metal.  The kit has some pretty nasty mold lines that need to be cleaned up but all in all, not a bad looking kit so far.  If you have built this kit, leave me a comment on your take on this kit.  If you built the green one I've shown my hats off to you for an excellent build.

FYI that kit was originally released as part of the trophy series in the 1960's.

Yeah, it's an oldie but goodie

G'day Bob. I built this kit many years ago and from memory I don't think I had any major issues with it. Mine was also grey. I lowered mine and added custom tail lights, 60s Cadillac style. It's now in my rebuild queue. Goodluck with yours, I'll be following. 20220814_180012.thumb.jpg.73fe233f645e455ac1fbf3c5c40423b8.jpg

Cheers, David. ??

I agree with others here, for an old mold kit, it’s an excellent one. I built and posted a stock version recently (here), the only problem I had was getting the openable trunk lid to close/ seat against the body. I finally gave up and bonded the trunk lid closed but have seen other posted builds without this issue so it was likely operator error on my part and not the kit. Looking forward to following your build progress.

Thanks for the info Dave.  Good to know there are no major issues with this kit.  I may be lowering mine as well.  I like the color on your 49.

I remember your 49 now.  Really nice.  I like the color you went with.  Yeah, my deck lid fits a little funny so it will take some work.  Wasn't aware that the deck lit would open and close.

Definitely test fit the trunk! There is a bit of a fitment issue on this kit. It could be from how many times it's been issued and dependant on how old or new the kit is. Nothing major that can't be fixed easily though.

Thanks for the heads up Roger.  I'll have to check it out and see what my options might be.

Did some work on the body this morning.  I got the fender skirts glued in place and they look tight all the way around.  I got the hood fitting about a good as it's going to get but the deck lid is a different story.  It does not fit well at all.  I guess I'll display it with the deck lid open.  I did a little mockup with the custom wheels from the kit and some white wall tires from the parts box.  It was 32° this morning so I think I'll wait til later in the week to do any painting.

Cut the rear of the interior tub off where the trunk hinge attaches. Use a piece of tube to mount the hinge, it will fit more firmly

Thank's for the info about the tube.  My deck lid just does not match the shape of the body.

It is my understanding that the trunk issue was caused by how the trunk hinge was trapped between the body and the interior tub. Changing the trunk hinges would fix that.

Thanks for the info but on mine it's not the hinge.  My deck lid is not the same shape as the body.  The only cure is to fab a new deck lid and that's out of my wheel house.

Nice wheel and tire choice Bob! One thing I do in cooler weather is paint outside and bring it in the house. I am sure you have done that buddy.
