Nice wheel and tire choice Bob! One thing I do in cooler weather is paint outside and bring it in the house. I am sure you have done that buddy.

Thanks Carl.  This winter I'll be airbrushing in my garage.  I have a 5000 watt heater that I've had for a few years and normally get it up to 55° - 60° in the winter.  I'm curious as to how it's going to work out as far as painting.

If you haven’t shot paint on the body yet, why not make a trunk lip with some styrene to fill the gaps in the trunk opening? Like a rain gutter

Thanks for the info but I think I'm just going to display this one with the hood and deck lid open but thanks for the idea.

The weather was nice today do I got after it and got some paint on the  49 Merc.  The paint is Tamiya X-10 Gun Metal Acrylic.  I thinned it 2-1 with Mr Color Leveling Thinner.  I look a little like a metallic but it should change a little during the curing process.

Looking good !

Thanks Ray.  The color is a little off from the cap and it has a metallic look to it.  Not what I was going far.

Well my Friend, looks darn good to me.  I like the color myself.

Thanks Buddy.  I like the color, I was just expecting it to be darker.

Tamiya TS-13 clear typically darkens most metallic paints to a degree. I painted a '63 Fairlane around three years ago with Gun Metal and it looked almost like Light Gun Metal out of the can. Like you, I was hoping it would be dark like the lid on the spray can. Three coats of TS-13 brought it right where it should be. This is what the chassis looks like with no clear.

That looks pretty good Roger.  I'll be hitting mine with Tamiya X-22 Clear once it cures for a few day and I wet sand it.

Great color.  Hopefully it will darken with the clear but I think it still looks good.

Thanks Bob.  Yeah, I like the way it looks.  Just wasn't what I was going far.  We'll see how it looks once I get it Cleared and polished.

Alright fellows....I wet sanded the body this morning and shot the Tamiya X-22 Clear on about an hour ago.  I'm just not sold on this paint job.  It's nice and shiny but for some reason it came out a little blotchy.  It still needs a good polishing after it cures out for a few days.
