White Rabbit Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Great updates everyone! The builds are looking fantastic!
Spottedlaurel Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Good see to see the updates. Haven't had a lot of time to anything on mine recently, but I polished it a while back. Wasn't entirely happy with that, so I gave it a T-Cut and second resin polish today. Also made some modest progress with interior: Cut out and glued in some pieces of wet-and-dray paper for the carpeted areas. Aftermarket resin seats are primed along with everything else, so I can start getting some colour down (well, shades of black and grey). 2
Spottedlaurel Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Spurred on by what I managed yesterday I got a reasonable bit more done today: Brake calipers and wheel centres given a coat of gold (may do a second coat on the latter), matt and semi-gloss black daubed on various parts of the interior, and painted the headling and inside of the bodyshell. Had a Revell Shelby Series 1 come the other day, it has staggered tyres which might suit the mid-engined layout here. Got a bit of leave later this week, will try and find time to move it on a little bit between the outside jobs on the house/garden I'm meant to be doing. 3

MeatMan Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Sorry for the lack of updates but I haven't had much bench time. I had painted my 918 back in September but used liquid mask on some of the harder places to mask with tape and it was a headache to remove. This was the hardest model to paint that I've ever done. Lots of nooks & crannies that needed to be black. In the end it turned out pretty well. The color is beautiful and if I had worked more on smoothing the color before clearing it would be a perfect paint job. Now to put it all together. 3
disconovaman Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Second attempt at paint work... I messed up the stripes, I wasn't happy with the results so I decided to start over and it's another color. This is more like it... the other color was kinda flashy compared to this one. I definitely know how to complicate a project, this was supposed to be a quick build. ? 3

Same for everyone taking part, not long now.... Dabbled with my CBR project yesterday, will try and do a little bit more today. Main job left is detailing the body, with lots of panel line washing and trim painting which aren't my favourite jobs. Interior largely done, need to think about a rollcage. 2
disconovaman Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Back to where I left off is good spot to be in so I think I can finish strong now... I used to build in a day when I was young... how did we do that? Now it's a struggle to get something built in a year... ? 3

Whosurdaddy209 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I had to make a tough decision about my engine, after getting everything put together I wasn’t very happy with how it looked, so I decided to scrap the original engine and start over with a supercharged LS9 from a donor ZR1 kit. I am much happier with it now. The only thing left on this one is to clear and polish the hood, then do a final polish on the whole car and I can call it done? 1

MeatMan Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I painted the wheels I printed for my 918 and decided to do a quick mock-up, so I stuck on the front & rear fascia and put decided to check the windshield for fit. Lo and behold, the curvature of the windshield doesn't match the curve of the frame. Dunno what I'll do to make it work. I think the the part I glued on the inside of the frame distorted it somewhat, as I've never heard of anyone else having this issue. Murph strikes again! 1
tim08 Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 All these builds are looking awesome. This is the last few months of updates. Got the racing green on it. and was still trying to figure out some wheels. Finally settled on these They were black so I painted them in a steel color, the black looked a little toyish to me. Here it sat a few months ago. Copied that cooler with allumilite resin, my first go at resin casting, did some steelies too. The roll cage didn't fit so I left it out. Did some wiring on the firewall and inner fenders. Here's how she sets right now, just got to finish up some painting, door handles and marker lights, that kind of stuff. Then put the rest of it together Should be able to finish up before the end of the month. 1
White Rabbit Posted November 12, 2023 Author Posted November 12, 2023 (edited) 2016 AMG GT My completed entry for this year’s Cannonball. Overview The idea for this year’s entry was to have a true GT car that, as Jeremy Clarkson once said, is capable of traversing long distances at a high rate of speed in complete comfort. Therefore, a GT car built for the Autobahn seemed like a good choice as it’s made to cruise comfortably at 150mph all day. The car itself has some modifications, the most visible being the Vossen MX-2 wheels (20”F, 21”R) wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires. Both were modeled and printed. Furthermore, the rear wing was cutout and modeled and printed as well, with its respective brackets so that it could be posed in its open position. The interior has Recaro sport seats with a 4-point roll bar just behind. The interior is fully flocked. The exterior was painted in Tamiya Bright Gunmetal Semi-gloss, which is analogous to Mercedes’ Selenite Grey semi-gloss. The interior is sky grey and black with the roll bar in body color. Finally, for an accent, the wheels are titanium gold in front of black brake calipers. The engine was built from the kit, but detailed with wiring and plumbing. The under-hood molded-in hoses were cutout and replaced with aftermarket hoses and wiring. The molded-in brake master cylinder/booster/reservoir and ABS pump were also removed. In their place is modeled and printed versions the have been wired and plumbed. The bracing that runs from the firewall to the fenders was also scratch-built and added. Specifications Kit: Revell 2016 AMG GT Exterior Paint: Tamiya Bright Gunmetal, semi-gloss black Aftermarket: HobbyDesign detail set (photo-etch and resin) and resin Recaro seats, various wires and hoses from Detail Master and Gofer racing, Evergreen and Plastruct plastic stock 3D Print: wheels and tires, brake master cylinder/booster/reservoir, ABS pump, third chassis brace, rear wing and brackets Scratch-built: roll bar, pocket for brake master cylinder et al., oil filler and dipstick tubes, chassis braces (front), rear wing mechanism and body fill panel for the wing Below is the completed model with the last picture of the AMG alongside last year's entry. Thank you for looking and critiques are always welcome! Edited November 12, 2023 by White Rabbit 2
