spencer1984 Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 This was supposed to be my build for the 2022 Cannonball Run CBP, but I never got the groove with it and only just finished it after the CBP is over. RoG kit converted from the GTB (coupe) to the GTS (roadster) with the removal of the top, louvered side windows, and new badges. Also left off the inner wheel blanks and installed a set of disc brakes from AMT's first-gen Viper, scribed a full engine hatch break, replaced the tailpipes with metal tubes, and gave it a screen-accurate Hawaii plate. As always, any comments/criticisms are welcome! 12
beeRS Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Wow. You done an excellent job here. Such a clean build. I think the shape of the 308 is probably the most beautiful Ferrari, and you’ve really captured the feel of the 1:1 car. I built this RoG kit as a kid, and it looked like a dog’s dinner compared to yours. I watched loads of Magnum episodes on VHS to research the 308, and found that they used several slightly different models of 308 over the seasons. Thanks for sharing. 1
spencer1984 Posted December 21, 2022 Author Posted December 21, 2022 Thanks, guys! 6 hours ago, beeRS said: I watched loads of Magnum episodes on VHS to research the 308, and found that they used several slightly different models of 308 over the seasons. I can't remember exactly how many but I think it was at least 3 different models of the 308 over the show's run. I decided to go with the Pilot version since that's the one we see in the opening titles, so to me it's "the" Magnum Ferrari. 2
Mattilacken Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Nice build! to bad that you did not make it in time for CBR!
Lucius Molchany Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Pretty cool I I painted mine gunmetal gray,They came in that color too! 1
Rich Chernosky Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Looks good Bill. I am pretty sure Revell issued a kit of this car from the TV show. Have it some where in the stash.
Dragonhawk1066 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Very nice, Bill! I can hear the theme music in my head right now, lol.
Gustavo Reis Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Very nice Ferrari, one of the most beautiful models.

They really whiffed the body shape with its chop-top roofline, and while the functional parts all sounded really interesting the QC just wasn't there to pull it off. 2 hours ago, Gustavo Reis said: Very nice Ferrari, one of the most beautiful models. No argument from me, I think the early 308 with its clean nose is darn near perfection.

Dragline Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I would be proud of that build were it mine. Very nice.
Dominik Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 very nice! i like the revell kit a lot. well built!
peteski Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I really enjoyed watching that show. Nice model! But wasn't the license plate on the show "ROBIN.1" as it was one of Robin Masters' car?
KWT Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Very nicely done Bill! 36 minutes ago, peteski said: I really enjoyed watching that show. Nice model! But wasn't the license plate on the show "ROBIN.1" as it was one of Robin Masters' car? not in the beginning
WizPorsche944 Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 How did you do the louvered side windows ?

Lucius Molchany Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I don't recall having any major issues building this kit!
Twokidsnosleep Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Nice build. Magnum would approve??? working on the figures and TC’s chopper now, then the Ferrari later
spencer1984 Posted December 24, 2022 Author Posted December 24, 2022 Thanks guys! 10 hours ago, WizPorsche944 said: How did you do the louvered side windows ? I removed the original window surround, then cut a pair of louvered inserts from Evergreen 0.040" clapboard siding. A little sanding to refine the fit and some careful bendding to make sure they fit the openings as tightly as possible, then installed them with Tamiya extra thin cement to really seat them. 8 hours ago, peteski said: I did not know that. I guess the plate that was used for the rest of the series was what stuck in my mind. "ROBIN-1" is by far the better known license plate, but the pilot episode Ferarri with its older style "56E-478" is what I always think of when I think of this car. If I find (or decide to make) the later GTS, it will be wearing a "ROBIN-1" plate. 6 hours ago, Lucius Molchany said: I don't recall having any major issues building this kit! No, the kit itself was actually very good. I may have wished for a better part breakdown to make painting easier in a couple of places, but really nothing to complain about. 5 hours ago, Twokidsnosleep said: Nice build.
