kelson Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Happy New Year everyone!,new build on the bench,i'll be using a oop 1/24 transkit i've had for decades to turn the 70'T/A into a Firebird 350,the transkit has the formula hood as well, but i already have a couple of the Mpc 70'Formula kits so no point.Color will be mist Turquoise with a vinyl roof. 1
kelson Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 I've made some progress on this build, chassis is painted and some of the suspension as well, have the engine painted as well.
kelson Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 Since i'm doing a 350 Esprit and it was more upscale, i added styrene strips along the wheels wells and lower body and hood and vinyl roof, body is in primer so it's not really visible.Hopefully color coats tomorrow?.The hardest part was using my panel scriber and Dremel to remove the lower front spoiler from the front fascia. 3
kelson Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 Last update for today,i wanted to go with a bright blue interior,so i used some bright light blue, once the body is painted i'll see if they make a good combo.? 3
TransAmMike Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Coming along very nicely Curtis. TAMikes' watchin' ? 1
AMT68 Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I like it. I don't ever recall seeing a scale second generation Firebird with a vinyl top. I'm also watching. 1

kelson Posted January 15, 2023 Author Posted January 15, 2023 Small updates here;body is painted, little crazing on the rear end,i think i sanded off to much primer before color coats.?
kelson Posted January 15, 2023 Author Posted January 15, 2023 Also have the engine /chassis pretty much done, since i couldn't find any pontiac 350 manifolds i used some parts box chevy ones, they're not correct but no one will see them. ?i also used a parts box carb as well.I also for the second time tried heat staining the exhaust a little heavy handed in spots but i can live with it.I also modified the aircleaner taken from the 1st issue of Monograms 69'GTO Judge. 1
kelson Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 Back with a small update, the interior is finished, used Tamiya light sand and bisque tan for the flocking, used the kit seatbelts and didn't care for them.I used a old detail master decal sheet for the woodgrain on the dash, driiled out the spokes on the steering wheel and added MCG photo etched keys. 2
TransAmMike Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Great job on the the Firebird Curtis, you're nailing it....keep up the good work!! 1
Bainford Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Nice, tidy work. That's looking really good. 1
kelson Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 Bringing this up to speed front and rear fascia complete,i used decals for the backup lights, since they are to small to paint.Ialso made some emblems for the front and rear of the car using my mpc 70'formula and a tutorial from SAE. 1
kelson Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 I've got the body/chassis together, but it's fighting me a little, hoping to finish by tomorrow.?Firebird decals on the side are keith marks and the 350 emblems are from the 76'chevy Caprice p/e set. 4
NOBLNG Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Nice work on this one so far Curtis. I like the colours on it and that front end is really nicely detailed.? 1
kelson Posted February 25, 2023 Author Posted February 25, 2023 This build is now finished and is posted Under Glass, thanks for the comments and views as always.?
