Bullybeef Posted September 18, 2024 Author Posted September 18, 2024 Test shot for colour, not sure if I’m feeling the sand colour for the roof insert or just go black. 1
David G. Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 The red seems right for the time period and vehicle. For the top and tonneau, maybe a more leather colored color? Something like Tamiya's TS-1 Red Brown? David G. 1

I think black would be safe. I like the contrast of what's there now and as a contemporary hot rod it would work but the wheel/tire says traditional....what is the time period depicted by this representation? (am I overthinking this, Bil? ?) You have flathead power, '60s rolling stock, and maroon paint. Black is safe. ? Edit: you've got me bloviating now so....we enthusiasts in the year 2024(that's right, it's 2024!) now have a very long history of rod building to draw upon. The examples are virtually infinite. You can depict a car built in 1948 or 1955 or 1975 or 2000. I love the cars built around the late '50s. I hate the high-tech billet buggies. But then you have resto-rods of the '70s and nostalgia rods and on and on. So then...if you are building it today in 2024, you've got to decide on a time period you want to depict...enter the back-story. Who built it and when? But you know all this. I'm done now. ☺️ heh heh heh.... Edited September 19, 2024 by customline
Bullybeef Posted September 19, 2024 Author Posted September 19, 2024 Well Jim, I was attempting a little different vibe with the tan, and I’m not really feeling it at this time, I think you are right basic black is the correct look. I’m with you 200% on the not being pleased by “Billet buggies”. It will be a little bit before i’m painting again as the weather is fit for neither man nor beast. But that’s ok as I’ve enough non paint related work to do for a little while.

Well for the first time in 22 years I’m closer to the equator than the arctic circle lol, swapped the 53rd parallel for the 48th.

Bullybeef Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 Might be time to pull this down off the shelf of uncertainty and give it an ending. 1

Have some parts dechroming to do but it looks like I can possibly have this assembled fairly soon and placed away in the display cabinet. I had thought about giving the body a bit of a polish( yeah that’s not happening) then i remembered that this is a high schooler hotrod so he has not time for shiny. 4
Bullybeef Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 Well some progress has been made, chassis is complete and wheels permanently affixed. Moving on with some engine work and some fitment issues. Fuel pump is touching off the firewall and the rad hoses are too tall for the radiator both are easy fixes that I’m working on right now. I’ve decided to keep the tan top and tonneau cover as they lend a nice contrast to the burgundy. 3
David G. Posted April 3 Posted April 3 That looks great Bil! I have always thought of getting the wheels under it as a tipping point. It's the point at which the model kit becomes a model car. It looks like this one has poseable steering, yes? David G.

And yes you are correct poseable steering! I also have the doors as openable, not that much of a tricky bit as others have mentioned in their build threads, I used Tamiya extra thin quick setting to get the hinges in place and then after they were placed dripped some ca in the joints, just an exercise of patience really. corrected the upper water pipes and set the rad in place and know the front is nearly complete. Next will be adding the windows and finish dressing out the cab. All I need are the instructions for the glass templates and the acetate for the glass, now if only I could find both? I know I put them in a safe place. 2
Bullybeef Posted April 4 Author Posted April 4 (edited) Well this detail might have been a little overkill as I hadn’t planned to make it that detailed, functioning door handles?? Well for most people the pet peeve of these older kits is the doors don’t stay closed, so let’s make em function! All I did was drill the door hole open and use the kit supplied door handles and add a styrene tab to the back to hook the door frame. Edited April 4 by Bullybeef 5
David G. Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Awww, c'mon! That's a great idea and it's cool that you could make it work. When I built my 57 Ford I used magnets. David G. 1

David G. Thanks David, overall I’m pretty pleased with how well it’s worked! I have one of these kits left unopened in my stash( and now they have rereleased it( I only want the Chopper))and there are things I would change on the next one! The temptation to use the new 29 roadster chassis is pretty high on that list. but that being said this one is inching closer to completion. 3
Zippi Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Don't think I've ever seen funtioning door handle on a model Bil. Nice work.
