Belugawrx Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 I am looking for some American racing wheels for my buddy's truck build.. I have these out of the Boyd Coddington '62 Corvette, but they scale out to about 20", and thats a bit too big (and they are skinny) Do these come in an existing kit in a smaller size, or are they available aftermarket? Any help is appreciated....Cheers
Bill Eh? Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Bruce, might it be worth your time to reach out to Casey on the forum. After all, Forward Resin, has many offerings. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Maybe the same ones that you already have...I kinda thought they were 17 inchers, but I don't have the kit here at this time to measure. They're pretty narrow too.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 I don't think Casey does those, but there's a good chance this guy does: https://www.ebay.com/str/3dscaleparts
Mark Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 The ones pictured are from the Revell '57 Chevy, I'd bet on it. The AMT Coddington series kits that I have seen had larger diameter wheels, so much so that RC2 (NOT Round 2) created some funky suspension parts to try to make the whole deal look workable. I bought one of the '57 Chevy kits just for giggles, it has a weird looking articulated rear axle setup (but still with the leaf springs). The wheels are downright goofy, the brake rotor and caliper is sandwiched BETWEEN the outer and inner halves of the wheel.

Nope, these came out of the Boyd Coddington '62 corvette kit Edited March 7, 2023 by Belugawrx
Mark Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Compare the center area of both the Corvette and '57 wheels...
Can-Con Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 I'm 100% positive those are the Revell snap '57 Chevy wheels you have there Bruce. Here's what I'm using a set on,,
Belugawrx Posted March 7, 2023 Author Posted March 7, 2023 This is what I am trying to replicate A little smaller and deeper
Can-Con Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Scale Motorsport has these. They come in sets of 2 in 2 different sizes but they're bloody expensive. 1
Bills72sj Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 If you have a lathe and some free time you could whittle a set from some aluminum tubing,
KWT Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Here check these https://www.ebay.com/itm/225070166588?hash=item34673a323c:g:OecAAOSw1eJizFfr https://www.ebay.com/itm/225046552830?hash=item3465d1e0fe:g:scYAAOSwdmdit7uL https://www.ebay.com/itm/325469753828?hash=item4bc78251e4:g:h0YAAOSwDshjoQPm 1

Pierre Rivard Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Not quite the same Bruce, but I have these early style Halibrands from HRM (resin) that might work out. Tire inner 17.2 mm, rim outer lip did 18 mm, so about 17 in at 1/25.

Some nice stuff there, but Wow!, those prices. He has a set of 1/25 scale Halibrands I need for an upcoming build, but it will cost $75 CDN to get them to my door.

mikemodeler Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Have a look at these. I have other stuff from this vendor and it's really nice. https://www.ebay.com/itm/325469753828?hash=item4bc78251e4:g:h0YAAOSwDshjoQPm&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsPYAx%2BI4b6lVTp4a80vLk5kcSgXP3O2wn28r2b0kmdhF%2BRIPX14X8CIwlSi6i%2Fgxuu1qDMd8r2Opfkt4Kb5FnjZHN1JQV1iQhp5QTwamlaL%2BWQjqCI5eDjLQ3CAi%2B8K2JmlefIuBbG%2BQDg1u%2FH1hY%2FvvtAqLhs7Tk7Nr7AuCz2sLiP1RvyCVy5wxlrrmD%2FbvaAtFdia%2BPQflNHBrQzQdTUHa9cdS2vugSWa3jnsFdth3|tkp%3ABk9SR6CQ0JnYYQ Another option would be recent re-issue of the Rat Roaster that has similar wheels. 1

My apologies Mark, you are absolutely correct..I had completely forgotten that I picked up the snapper '57 for the rear wings and filed those wheels away for future use.

Best suggestion yet...and you get the rest of the kit to boot, all for about $35, shipped to your door Original: Recent modified reissue: Edited March 8, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy 1
Belugawrx Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 I think we found a winner...? Thanks guys for the leads !
mikemodeler Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 The resin wheels more closely resemble those on the truck, the Rat Roaster wheels look to be slightly different but usable and likely easier to find and as Ace pointed out, you get a model kit to boot!
