eran_k Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 I like to build simple kits from time as a pause from the more involved and complicated kits, i picked the Tamiya 1988 Porsche 911 turbo some time ago and decided to start it few days ago. this is a very simple kit with very low parts count, actually i think this was a snap together kit when it first came out, nevertheless the fit is excellent and i always wanted to build this iconic car. i started with priming all the parts with gray primer. the suspension and tub were then shot with semi gloss black as well as the dash steering wheel and few other small parts. the underside and the body were sprayed with orange paint. and the engine+ gearbox (only the bottom part is molded as part of the underside) ware painted with metallic as well as the exhaust system. the seats were paint with my own mix to try and simulate a brownish leather, and then satin varnished and washed with brown oil wash. the wheel centers were painted gloss black. assembly was easy and now i'm waiting for the body to dry for couple of days before moving on to clear and the next steps. 4
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Looks good. Some people don't shoot primer on smaller parts, but I think it helps the look, especially when mold seams have been worked down, etc. Nice work.
espo Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Great looking paint work, and the interior finish is especially nice looking. 1
Funkychiken Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 The leather did come out nice with your technique 1
eran_k Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 So i sprayed the clearcoat today, several coats. im not good at spraying clear, got a lot of orange peel that i'll need to think how to deal with.

Belugawrx Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Wet sand with 800g and then 1000grit..should be good to polish then. 1
cifenet Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 I am thinking your clear is shooting bit dry. What clear are you using? Many ways to overcome this, but you can also increase thinner ratio as a first step. If you think you have enough thickness of clear layer, you can sand down some and see how things are. May have to repeat applying clear. The yellow looks fantastic though!
ozmodeler Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Yes I agree with the above suggestions. I'd wet sand with 800 /1000 and re-coat clear with more thinner less air pressure then polish when thoroughly dry.
